Gore suggestions?
Gore suggestions?
Ok, what are some good, gory movies to get (besides Brain Dead and Premutos). I remember Deadguy asking this quite a while ago but, can't locate the thread. I'm looking for any movie with a large amount of gore. I'm not too concerned with story.

My earliest memories having to do with horror movies, the ones that really pulled me into fandom were Evil Dead 2 and Dawn of the Dead. They're fairly text book movies for newcomers but if you're not terribly experienced with the genre, they're universally accepted as point A for people interested in horror.RisexInside wrote:what is a good horror movie for someone just getting started in horror

I gotta say I'd be a little embarassed to say that. I love gore and violence as much as the next guy but it should always come second. You're gonna end up watching alot of very, very bad movies this way.Gorified wrote:I'm looking for any movie with a large amount of gore. I'm not too concerned with story.
For introductory horror, I think it's important to get full grasp of films from all eras. Maybe take 2 or 3 from each decade and watch those. But to add to the ones LT mentioned, I'd add Re-Animator and John Carpenter's The Thing for modern horror films.

Then there's the quasi-snuff films like August Underground and Guinea Pig, which I avoid cause they're expensive and are pointless. Personally if I wanted to see some snuff gore films I'd buy some raw meat to cut up and video tape it, it's basically the same thing.

I like movies the same way I like music. Not every song I listen to is my favorite song. I like a lot of different bands and songs for a lot of different reasons. I have a large collection of movies and they each have their place. So, for you then, the gorriest movie you will ever watch is the one with a good story? That's cool and all but, I have a broader scope of what I like. It doesnt matter if you think gore should come second.DylanDog wrote:I gotta say I'd be a little embarassed to say that. It seems you think that since YOU look at gore as secondary then, that should be MY opinion too. Now THAT is something I would be embrassed to say.
To each his own and mine will be gore!

I'm with Dave on the bad movies thing. If all you want to see is violence and grue, then there are still plenty of mondo-style atrocity movies out there packed with real death and violence. Where you might otherwise sit through some real shitty stories to see a couple of particularly messy death scenes, these just cut to the chase. Personally, I can't stand the real death shit. I was fascinated by it when I was 13 but these days I'm just looking for good movies.

I think it just gets old hearing this question and questions like it over and over. "What are GORY westerns?", "what are GORY martial arts films?", etc... It's never "what's a good western with lots of violence?" or "are then any interesting western/horror hybrids?" etc.. Just seems like a waste of time to me. Not only that, but I think the horror fans who want all gore all the time and nothing but gore tend to give the whole community a bad name. For a genre so often under attack, it's seems a bit counterproductive to openly admit that artistic merit is not important to you.
Of course, as I type this I'm watching sicko perverts get kicked in the sack so what do I know...?

haha, that was me that did the gory western thread. I was really intersted in them cause I already know of all the other kinds of westerns, never have I seen any with gore before.
Yeah looking for gore does get old though and the movies get boring fast. I noticed most the movies with gore lag way too much with weak unintersting dialogue. I can't sit through most of them cause they're dull as hell, even the gore scenes get dull too. A good solid movie you could watch form begining to end is what really matters.

IF YOU DONT LIKE MOVIES WITH GORE IN THEM
WHY DONT YOU GO WATCH LONESOME DOVE OR SOME OTHER COWBOY BULLSHIT
I don't hate gore films, Braindead is my favorite movie in fact. I just hate the ones that don't even try to be movies, 90% of them are mindless talk for 7/8th of the movie. Kichiku made me realize this, I didn't even give a shit about the gore anymore after sitting through the tedious talk. A lot of gore movies follow the Kichiku formula. Shitty Writing + couple gore scenes you'll inevitably get tired of like a video game = Worthless movie.{DeAdGuY} wrote:IF YOU DONT LIKE MOVIES WITH GORE IN THEM

I'm not into the true death thing at all. Keep in mind that the majority of Faces of Death was fake...

It sounds like your just watching the wrong films.jga5000 wrote:I don't hate gore films, Braindead is my favorite movie in fact. I mean 90% of films that contain gore are not mindless and worthless like you say
Yeah most is pretty bad, even some of my gorehound buds will get pissed off at how these movies are boring. Most the euro + Japanese stuff and generic slashers lag way too much, it's like they could all be edited to 5 miutes. Also most of the stuff on the so-called Video Nasties list is unbearbale to watch.{DeAdGuY} wrote:It sounds like your just watching the wrong films.

are they?
The gore favorites will always be Peter Jackson's stuff cause he knew how to make a solid story with excess campy gore
Well even the staple gore films like Lucio Fulci's stuff has boring parts, I find myself wandering off in The Beyond and Zombie a lot.
I think they're too much of gorehounds that they grow restless with the talky parts too easily. They like the movies cause of the gore, but they won't kid themselves about the whole thing being watchable.

I've always been a big fan of Jorg Buttgereit and love that he put all those talky scenes, especially the "My Dinner With Andre" KO, in Nekromantik 2 just to piss off the gorehounds.
