Since my last post, I added these to my collection:

Silence of the Lambs (Criterion edition) - True to the Criterion reputation, they've kicked out another awesome edition of the movie. Got it for a steal on ebay.

A Tale of Two Sisters - Allegedly creepy-as-fuck horror movie from Korea. Haven't watched it yet.

Pinocchio 964 - Avant, low budget sci fi from Japan. Liked it the first time around, the appeal didn't hold up for a second viewing.

Joint Security Area - My second exposure to Korean director, Chan Wook Park. What a movie! It's great storytelling and a touching look at the situation between NoKo and SoKo.

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance - Still haven't watched this one yet. Another Chan Wook Park movie, allegedly more violent than Old Boy.

A Chinese Odyssey 1 & 2 - Allegedly Stephen Chow's best movies. If you're not familiar with the name, they're Chinese comedies. The subtitles are very, very poor. They might as well be pig latin.

God Of Cookery - Another Stephen Chow movie that I have yet to watch. Too many movies, not enough time for them all.

Kung Fu Hustle - Still more Stephen Chow. There's a review of it in The Beaten Track. I recommend this movie highly.

Warriors of the Wasteland (bootleg) - I started watching this. I love Enzo Castellari and I love Italian Road Warrior rip offs even more.

Legend of the Sacred Stone - Fucking bizarre Taiwanese kung fu puppet show. There isn't a living actor in this movie, just a ton of big special effects and mystifying martial arts battles done using little puppets.

Delicatessen - My favorite Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie! French survivors of some global catastrophe (it's never established what destroyed Paris) resort to cannibalism to survive, a hapless circus clown dodges bullet after bullet while charming the tenants of the tenement. Hilarious and extremely fucking weird.

The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen - Nothing exciting. We've all seen it a million times.

Sixteen Candles - I love John Hughes.

Return to Oz - Nearly forgotten live action movie by Disney from 1985. It's dark as hell and downright frightening in parts. The subliminal subplot about Dorothy's escape from childhood trauma into a fantasy world is disturbing.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks - I'm a sucker for these 70's live action Disney flicks. A witch defends England from Germany in world war 2 with magic.

Robocop (Criterion) - It features a seconds longer cut of the movie but the restored footage is downright brutal and Murphy's death scene is even a little uncomfortable to watch.

Coffin Joe Boxed Set - These movies are fucking awesome. They have intense atmosphere and are quite psychedelic. Coffin Joe is one of the most interesting and underappreciated bad guys in horror.

Deadhunter: Sevillian Zombies

Post by Julián Lara »

Hey there!
This is Julián Lara, the director of "Deadhunter: Sevillian Zombies", the spanish splatter movie. I read DeadGuy's post mentioning my movie. Well, just to let you know that this movie will be released in DVD in USA and Canada within a few months by a company from NYC, also I directed a sequel titled "Zombie Xtreme" and there's available for north america my first gore short "Evil Night" in DVD. You can learn more about my films and download the trailers in my home page: http://www.julianlara.com If you want to ask me something you can find me here: info@julianlara.com
Best regards,
Julián Lara.

There are parts of Tale of Two Sisters that I loved and parts I hate... I think it's one that has to grow on me... there's one part though... wooah! Creepy doesn't do it justice...

Who doesn't love a good John Hughes movie...

While I love Delicatessen... my favorite of his is still City of Lost Children

Got some more.

El Topo & The Holy Mountain - When I tossed out my old VHS collection, I lost my boots of these movies by accident. Rather, I set the boxes of tapes next to the dumpster, a couple of hours later when throwing more shit away, I found that someone had carted those boxes of tapes off. The parting wasn't so bad when I realized that I turned someone new on to these movies. Since then, I've been hungry for DVD copies of these movies and since it doesn't seem like they'll ever see the light of a laser, these bootleg DVDs will have to do. For those who haven't seen them, check this shit out. El Topo is an extremely surrealist western and Holy Mountain is weird beyond words. Awesome stuff.

Izo - To my knowledge, this is the most recent Miike movie to come to DVD. I haven't watched it yet, something about a lunatic samurai reborn throughout several reincarnations, slicing and dicing his way through everyone in the movie. It's got Takeshi Kitano in it, so I have high hopes but I've been less than impressed with Miike's last few movies.

Threads - The movie that single handedly ruined my entire week. A documentary style movie made in the early 80's by the BBC about the social and environmental impact of a nuclear exchange. It covers the politics leading up to the blast, the blast itself and the aftermath over several years. It uses theories based on statistical evidence to outline the possibilities of the nuclear aftermath and is quite possibly the most horrifying movie ever put to film.

Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior - Curiosity got the best of me and those ads on during CSI reruns make my mouth water. More asses are whipped in a thirty second TV spot than every Hong Kong movie released last year.

Night Watch - Fantasy Action from the former Soviet Republic. For a Kleptocracy, they have a few movies released over the last couple of years that look like France might have some competition on the European action movie market. I haven't watched it yet, but it has something to do with Vampires fighting an endless battle with "daytime warriors". I'll report back on it if it's any good.
