Wow. That is all I have to say. Silent Hill kicked ass all over the place. Creepy, mysterious, and gory, very very well done. I was not the least bit disappointed at all. Go see this movie.

Not bad, but not great. The atmoshere and soundtrack were pretty good as was the cinematography but the CGI gore and some of the bluescreen stuff really brought the overall experience down for me. 2.5/5

I'm not a gamer, so I have absolutely no input on how this movie compares to the video game experience. I took my daughter and we tried to watch it as a horror movie, plain and simple.

I thought this was two impressive-looking hours of hellishly boring cheese. As fine as the visuals were, there's only so long I can look at a landscape consisting entirely of ashes. A burned out city. Coal fires still burning. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down. And yet when they turn a corner in the hotel? "Looks like there was a fire!" was the line. Brought down the HOUSE, and the audience wouldn't let the movie off the hook from that moment on. Second-best line? "Look at me. I'm burning." (Really? Hadn't noticed.) If any movie did NOT need to last over two hours, it was this one... and I guess you can blame the COMPLETELY superfluous Sean Bean subplot ("Hey, man, there are no GUYS in this script! Can we ADD some?").

Okay--some zippy action and strong gory visuals as we (FINALLY) get to the climax. Acting passable.

Oh, did I mention that it was NOT scary? Not at ALL? Not in the LEAST? It's often as attractive as an oil painting, but black-haired girl ghosts and herky-jerky phantoms just DON'T WORK ON ME ANYMORE!!! OKAY???!!!

Couldn't wait to get out of Dodge, my friends. And my daughter was only slightly more impressed than I was (her friends told her it was "totally cool").

But I WILL say this--people complain that this movie doesn't make any sense? Well, it DOES make more sense than STAY ALIVE. Okay?

Good night.

Did I mention I am a big fan of the game series? It was pretty much the most faithful and well done translation from a series that is slow and mysterious to begin with. I have a feeling this one was really made for the fans.

But you are right about the "Looks like there was a fire" line bringin' down the house. The dialogue was pretty sad.

I was scared a couple times. I laughed more than a couple times.

Now, for people who enjoy popcorn, read this:

SHUT THE FUCK UP. How hard is it to place some popcorn in your mouth and chew with your mouth closed??? I was taught that when I turned 3 years old. Fucking scum of society.
Take a picture, trick. I'm on a boat, bitch.

I agree except I would say at least a 3. CGI always throws me off but the atmosphere was great. We were lucky to have a small enough crowd that the quiet moments didn't lose effect.

About the popcorn issue- yea, its gross... why do some guy-guys insist on using their hands like a feedbag and just hold it in front of their face while devouring the massive handful of food? It can't have been that long since they ate. Really. I swear the guy in front of us actually looked at the palm of his hand a few times making sure he didnt accidentally eat it.

I hate popcorn. It gets stuck in your teeth, it squeaks sometimes when you eat it, and, at least to me, it smells exactly like hot vomit.

I thought this movie was well done! I esp loved what they did with the triangle heads! I was scared and I don't usually get scared at scarey movies, I too usually laugh! I never played the game, but I watched it being played. The game kinda really gave me the creeps. I give it a 5/5!

I hear you Jonathan, drives me fucking nuts.

I had to move because of some stupid bitch, trying to get close with her boyfriend by acting to be super scared, so she had to yell and jingle her fucking keys...

aaaarrggh.

I thought it was horrible. Never scared, not tense at all and only a couple good effects. That mixed with terrible acting and constantly overstating the obvious every 2 seconds... 1/5 for me.

I wasn't sure about seeing this one to begin with (never played the games), but now I know I'm not missing anything by holding out for video on this one. There are better movies coming out soon that I would rather see like X-MEN 3 and SUPERMAN RETURNS. I would be better of saving my money for those instead of wasting it on crappy movies (especially now with gas getting outrageously expensive!)

BTW Remo, thanks for saving me $6.50 on this one. I know I can always count on a reliable review from you:)

Just watched it last night and tonight and I agree with Remo... way too long. It seemed the entire first hour was them running around yelling "Sharon! Sharon!". I had to shut it off at that point and finish tonight. Fortunately I did like the second half more than the first. Things moved at a much brisker pace, although almost too brisk. I mean, could she have gotten through that maze any quicker? I went into that thinking it would take too long, and it didn't take long enough. Only one obstacle and she just walked right through it. Lame. Oh well, I don't regret watching it, but I'll never watch it again.

Ok I have seen Silent Hill, and I must say it has some excellent visual effects and makeup plus some trully awsome kill scenes so if that's your cup of tea I assure you no disappointment.
However, don't be supprised if it leaves you saying:
"What the Fuck was that?"
Still you should see it because that's the best way to form your own opinion
don't heed warnings of suckiness go for it be bold and daring!

And as always
