Wizard Video list...help needed

Post by Darth Tanner »

Hi,
A few years ago, somebody posted a list (with catalog #'s) of all the videos released by Wizard in the 1980's. I thought I had the list someplace but I misplaced it and it is no longer in the archived posts on here:( If anyone can help me recreate it or can repost the list I would greatly appreciate it. Here are the titles I have seen and know off the top of my head (but still need catalog #'s):

ASTRO ZOMBIES
AUDITIONS
AVENGER X
BATTLE OF THE LAST PANZER - #059
BEAST (aka EQUINOX)
BEST OF SEX AND VIOLENCE
BLOOD BROTHERS
BLOOD CASTLE
BOOGEYMAN
BREEDERS - #082
CARNIVAL OF BLOOD
CRIMSON
DEMONIAC - #064
DIRTY HANDS
DREAMANIAC - #090
DRILLER KILLER - #041
DR. JEKYLL'S DUNGEON OF DEATH
DR. MINX
EMMANUELLE BLACK AND WHITE
FAMOUS T & A
FEAR
FEMALE TROUBLE
FILMGORE
HARRAD EXPERIMENT
HARRAD SUMMER
HEADLESS EYES - #091
HELLTRAIN
INVISIBLE DEAD
I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
MANDINGA - #057
MISS NUDE AMERICA
MISSION PHANTOM
MISTER X
MONSTER HUNTER - #080
MUTANT HUNT
OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES
OLD MOTHER RILEY'S GHOSTS
PARASITE
PENETENTIARY
PINK FLAMINGOS - #013
PSYCHOS IN LOVE
RETURN OF THE ZOMBIES
REVENGE IN THE HOUSE OF USHER
ROBOT HOLOCAUST
SCREAMING DEAD
SCHLOCK
S.S. EXPERIMENT
SHE DEVILS IN CHAINS
SPACE VAMPIRES
SNUFF
TATTOOED HIT MAN
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD
ZOMBIE
ZOMBIE LAKE - #070
ZOMBIETHON

There are some titles that I'm unsure of, so I added them to the list for now until the list is finished or I can verify that they weren't put out by Wizard.
I'll add more as I think of them (or get catalog #'s for them). I'm not certain but I'm sure Bruce is the one that had this list up. But his list was missing some titles and he's been missing in action for so long that I doubt he is still around. So if anyone else can help me with this.......

Three of the very titles missing from that list(which looks to be near complete)are "Erotikill"(Jess Franco vampire erotica outing),"Famous T&A"(a composite of clips of famous ladies in their films' nude scenes, all hosted by Sybil Danning),and the ever notorious "Snuff"(a film so infamous that its official DVD distributor Blue Underground refused to place its logo upon it[as well as not give it any of the extras that usually accommendate their DVDs]).

Thanks for the info. EROTIKILL was not a Wizard release that I am aware of. I rented it ages ago and it was released by Force Video. Not sure about the other two, but they could be possible iffy's. I'm still looking around hoping to fill in more spaces and get some catalog numbers for the titles already listed. I went to one of the few remaining indie stores in my area to get these numbers and they only had a handful of Wizard titles in their inventory. I also did a search on IMDB for Wizard Video and pulled up about 50 titles. I was real skeptical about a few on their list, but I put some of them on the list I was compiling anyway until it is finished or I can verify they weren't released by Wizard. Many of the titles on my list are ones that I have seen ages ago with my own eyes but don't have the numbers for. The list that was posted here a few years back had close to 100 slots as I recall, with all but maybe 10 or 15 catalog numbers spoken for.

With all the collectors on here, I'm surprised more people haven't jumped on this thread yet (hint, hint). Certainly somebody out there still has some Wizard tapes. What I really need are the catalog numbers which are located on the spine of the box to help me get this list complete.

Zombie's catalog # is 019

Zombie had 2 different sized boxes from Wizard, regular and porn size. Both have the same catalog #.

I gave my Wizard VHS of TCM to my sister, however I'm sure I can round that catalog # up for you sometime this week.

EROTIKILL is a sticky point... it wasn't strictly a Wizard title, but it DID come from one of their sister labels, Force Video. And a new kettle of fish is opened!

Thanks for the list Chris. I was beginning to think you were holding out on me  From the list, there are only 10 numbers that have yet to be spoken for (if they even exist). That's assuming Wizard didn't put out anymore videos after MUTANT HUNT (#094).

Remo - thanks for the tip about EROTIKILL, however for my list I'm only interested in titles that strictly carry the Wizard label. But I can keep the title (or one of it's many alternate versions) in mind as a possible iffy until the list is complete. I'm mainly doing this list as a reference for collectors such as myself. There are many other now-defunct labels I would like to compile lists for (i.e. Continental, Vestron, Transworld, ThrillerVideo, Cinema Group, etc.), but I'll hold off on those until I get the Wizard list complete (or as finished as I can get it).

You might want to get yourself a copy of The Trashfiend's Guide To Collecting Videotapes if you haven't done so already. It's not that great but it's the only reference for things like these that I've ever come across. The list of Wizard releases is the same as the one Chris posted though. As far as other labels go I know of more than twice the number of Thriller releases that they have on their list. It might be helpful (and hopefully more complete) for other labels though. It's got a price guide too but that is of course worthless.

Great idea! Please tell me where I can order this book ASAP!! If the price is right, I'll spring for it. Sounds like just the thing I've been looking for. Does it give pics of any box covers? I tried searching on Amazon and couldn't find it. Please let me know where I can get it from and I'll order it. BTW Gothbat, nice to see you back on here. Long time no see. How have things been?

Here's a link. Hopefully you can still get it, I think that at one point they used to sell it at Amazon. It's the 2003 edition but about a year or two ago I emailed the author with an update for his Thriller Video list and he told me that it was highly unlikely that there would ever be a new edition since (I think) he lost money on this. Our own Bruce H is listed as a contributor. There are a few pics of boxes but not many. The bulk of the book is just a price guide, the entries do give a little info about the tape though. It’s not a bad book/mag but I was slightly disappointed with it.

Thanks, always good to be here. I come by and read posts and update my viewing log fairly regularly but, unfortunately, I never have much to say. Things are pretty good. How have you been?

Thanks for that link. I fired off an email asking if he had any left and will send payment (assuming he does) ASAP when he replies. Can't wait to get my mitts on this, even if it does come up short. Too bad no updates are planned. Hell if I had the time and money to produce it, I would do a master encyclopedia of every title on every label complete with box art for all titles. Surely there would have to be a market for something like that (forget about the price guide idea). If enough collectors on here could contribute to such a thing, it would probably generate more enthusiasm than the aborted "Pages of Filth" project (remember that?).

Yeah I'm still here. I haven't had much to talk about either or time to watch much which is why I haven't updated my online movie log either. With the exception of me and Chris, there don't seem to be any of the original members left except for Kimberly, Shawn and Remo. So it's nice to see a familiar face. Some of the old-timers like Terry Luster, Baron Blood, Ian Miller and Bruce H. seem to have disappeared for good. I also haven't seen anything in awhile from our Aussie buddy Griff or my "partner in crime" David Austin. Any idea where they are?

The master encyclopedia idea is something that I’ve always wanted to see done as well. I’ve always liked the boxes for the Thriller Video releases and for a web design class I took a few years ago I made a collectors guide to all of the releases from them that I know of. I managed to get an image of all the box covers and typed a short review for each movie. I was going to update it for other labels and put it on the web, had a coming soon section for Midnight Video, but I never did. Unfortunately this is long gone as I forgot to move it to another partition when I did my periodic fdisk and format on my C drive. :/ If someone did start up a project like that I’d contribute what I could, just like I was willing to for the Pages of Filth project.

As for the other members, I haven’t seen or heard anything of them. I remember seeing a few of them on another message board using the same names but that was a few years back and I haven’t seen them since. Btw, when did the site drop the shadows.com DNS and before that did it always have both names (mortado.com and shadows.com)? Despite google maybe some people think that this site no longer exists?

Although this thread seems a bit old, a page for Wizard has been made at slasherindex.com. If anyone has any full artwork scans to add to the site, please do. Check out the Wizard Page:

Thanks for the link. That site is awesome and pretty much what I had in mind when I started this. The box art is really a nice touch and a great reference for those interested in the early days of video. Glad somebody was able to go forward with it as I don't have enough boxes to scan:). I was never able to find those missing titles. I even looked into the possible "iffys" and couldn't come up with anything concrete. But looking over your page I noticed that I didn't have SEXTOONS (#015), so now I can fill in another hole on the list. I've heard many claims that FILMGORE was part of the Wizard lineup, but I never found any definite proof or a catalog # for it. In fact I never did find out what label FILMGORE was released on as it isn't even listed in the above-mentioned Trashfiend guide (anybody know which label it was on?). What makes it even more confusing is that a few Wizard titles were re-released with different catalog numbers (both releases of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE) and sometimes under alternate titles (i.e. EQUINOX and THE BEAST are the same film as is MAFU CAGE and MY SISTER MY LOVE). ASTRO ZOMBIES was also released as SPACE VAMPIRES and SPACE ZOMBIES but they indeed all have the same catalog number....which is really strange if you ask me. I'm pretty certain though that MUTANT HUNT was the last title released by Wizard as it came out around the time they went out of business.

It seems that the Wizard list is as about complete as it is going to get for now until somebody can fill in those 9 "missing" titles. Right now I'm working on lists for other labels. But I also have a lot of things going on in my personal life, so I'll post those lists whenever I get around to it.

BTW ChainsawSlasher, I do have a few scans I "might" be able to give you for your sight. Shoot me an email if you are interested:)

FILMGORE was released by Force Video (FV5).

It's nice to see my old lists still getting some use around the 'net!
