Satan's Little Helper

Post by Kimberly »

I loved it!! Thought it was hella funny and entertaining...

A young boy is obsessed with a video game that his father got him called Satan's Little Helper. It takes place on Halloween, his sister comes into town with her new boyfriend... to take her little brother trick or treating. The little brother is jealous of his sisters guest and storms off to go and find Satan (his costume is whatelse? Satan's Little Helper). While out, he comes across a man in a great costume who is going from house to house killing folks and then positioning them outside like Halloween decorations... The boy thinks that it's Satan and the two set out to tear shit up...

I laughed from begining to end... I just loved it!!

I guess I'm missing something...I thought this was one of the worst movies I'd EVER seen.

I can cope with the general stupidity (like spotting a woman's shoes across a room so crowded it can't even be walked across or that it would be freezing at Halloween, but people are running around scantily clad).

I can cope with a silly slasher mask.

I can cope with an annoying child actor (though this is a big ask).

I can cope with the lack of nudity and gore.

What I can NOT accept is that the movie appears to have been written by the child star. The film suffers horribly from a typical symptom of a children's game. When something is no longer interesting, or not going the way they want, or they even just want to change, children will say things like, 'Okay, now I'm...' or 'Pretend that when...'. This film is doing this constanly in terms of the child's perception of the events around him. Sometimes, the kid thinks the goings on are real, sometimes they're fake, and his viewpoint changes sometimes even WITHIN a scene. Regardless of what mode he's in, he treats the killer exactly the same.

I guess it could be argued that the film is commentiong on violent media (in this case the titular video game), warping the child's abilty to distinguish reality from fantasy. But then he shouldn't have been able to distinguish at all, let alone switch being able to tell depending on how the director wanted a scene to play. It's also hard to believe that any youth of that age could be so dense, but that's another matter.

If the kid'd been gutted in the first scene, this coulda been something good.

Erm... maybe you read too much into the movie because I thought it was hella funny...

I didn't think it was trying to make a statement or anything along those lines. I just thought it was fun...

I mean really the whole shopping cart scene..."Oh look!! A pregnant lady!!" I was rolling...

Or "Hey Satan, where's your pitchfork..."

I almost rented that movie this weekend. Now i have to.

I will point out one to avoid though. It's called Mobile Home Massacre. I think that's enough said on that.

I didn't view it as a serious film, I just could not stand that kid at ALL, and thought he was horribly and inconsistently written.
