The Simpsons Movie
I guess that it would be safe to say that I have been waiting for a Simpsons movie for many years. I hope that it does not suck. It is hard to avoid the commercials now and I do not want to see them because I do not want any little spoilers.

I was so afraid that this movie was going to suck but really good things happen when you give a single Simpsons plot 90 minutes. It reminded me of the show when it was at the top of its game. Great movie.
Also.

Well, I went in with low expectations, and was reasonably entertained. It was about series nine quality in level. Really, it was a pretty flawed movie though...
Lisa could've just been left out entirely. For fuck's sake MAGGIE had more character stuff happening than the boring, skimpy, rehash plotline given Lisa.
On top of that, I really hope the climax was a satirical jab at mainstream movies...but given other elements in the movie, I'm less inclined to give the Simpsons the benefit of the doubt.
This movie would've been far better if it had been made before Homer morphed into a total jerk, too. It used to be just a few words required for Homer to break out of selfish mode, now it takes half a movie? What's that?
There are certainly worthwhile moments (I did like Spider-Pig), and it's worth seeing in the theater for some great widescreen animation, but The Simpsons probably should've retired long ago, and while the movie was far better than any episodes I saw after season 10 (when I pretty much gave up on the show), it's still a far, far cry away from recapturing the glory days. All but what, 10 seconds, could've been in the TV show, too.

Yeah--almost forgot... I saw this along with the rest of the world and wasn't inspired to review it. It was good fun--it made me laugh--and it wasn't anything that couldn't have waited for the DVD. I counted exactly three things that they wouldn't do on TV.
Funniest moment? Ralph's reaction to Bart's nude skateboard ride...

*Spoiler Alert*
Hilight text between the lines:
----------------------------
I am upset that Maggie said "sequel" at the end of the movie and they claimed it was her first word. This clearly is not her first word and it would have been more meaningful if they noted that her *second* word was sequel. Eh?

Were those the same three that you counted?
Oh, and Achimba's right, too. Maggie's first word was "Daddy," as voiced by Elizabeth Taylor. You think SOMEONE would have remembered that?
Then again, in THAT episode, nobody actually HEARD her say it save for the viewer... oh well, what's the point in arguing?

How about Otto taking a bong hit? I don't think that would fly on TV.Adremelech wrote:1. Bart's wiener

No one heard "Daddy" but they all heard "duddely doodly" or whatever the fuck she said when she was about to be baptised by the Flanders. I guess maybe those aren't technically words?
I think the flipping off and "God damn" could probably both get by on the show, if they actually fought with Fox.

I agree, though they have yet to try, apparently. Heck, Archie Bunker got away with "goddam" in the 1970s on prime-time CBS--because when Edith scolded him for his language, he pulled out a Bible and found the word "God" and the word "damn." "Beautiful words, Edith! Straight from the Bible!!!"I am 138 wrote:No one heard "Daddy" but they all heard "duddely doodly" or whatever the fuck she said when she was about to be baptised by the Flanders.
