CRYPTICON HORROR CONVENTION in Seattle May 23-25th!

I can hardly believe it, a real horror convention in Seattle for the first time ever. I will be attending all three days out of principle. It's been many years since I traveled down to LA for the Fango shows, hopefully this will be well attended.

Dear Sid Haig and Bill Moseley,
Take a weekend off for once, will ya?
I've been doing a con out here in New England since 2004 and those two have been at every single one. Now that our site actually has writers around the country, we've been working out deals with shows in their locales to get our guys in with press passes to cover this season's shows. Guess who is booked at every one of them? You better fucking believe it.
Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Bill Moseley is A+. Class up the ass. Take the time to meet the guy, he's a blast! Sid was kind of a dick to me, though.
Also, do yourselves a big favor and cozy up to Betsy Palmer. The woman wins my vote for greatest convention personality ever. I could have spent the entire day at her table talking to her and I'm almost positive that she would have let me. The woman reminds me of my grandmother. Somewhere around here I have a photo of her hugging me. I was just going to stand there in your stock awkward horror fan with celebrity pose but she insisted on the full embrace.
There's a real movement going on right now where parts of the country that haven't had cons in the past are finally getting their own. For the longest time I was resigned to the fact that I would never get to go to one because I didn't have the means or the free time to make it to New York or New Jersey for Chiller or Weekend of Horrors. Though, I will say this. I still want to make it to the Festival of Fear someday. Rue Morgue books the best guests up in Toronto.

It's Saturday and I'm posting this from the hotel's lobby computer. All of the guests want from 20-25 bucks for autographs! I think I am going to get Roddy Piper's but that's about it. Kane Hodder did an amusing Q and A after a screening of (ugh) "Jason X." I also forgot my flask
One thing that really disappoints me is the lack of dealers at the show. Not one bootleg DVD, old movie poster or obscure soundtrack to be found. I haven't been to a con since the early 90's (in LA) but I remember there being a lot of cool stuff for sale. I also don't remember having to pay for autographs unless you were buying an 8x10. I could be wrong though. I'm going to watch the end of Hellraiser now then shoot some pics of Ashley Laurence during her Q and A.
More later.

It was OK but the lack of dealers was a bummer. I only went on Saturday
I smoked a few cigarettes with Jason Mewes in the outdoor non-smoking area, he was a hell of a nice guy. I also dropped 25 bucks for an autographed 8x10 from Roddy Piper. The man was a pleasure to talk with and his Q and A was awesome. I have the majority of his Q and A (shitty still camera video) up on my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/mortado

well, for it being the first horror con up this way, it wasn't that bad. The lack of dealers was a bummer, but all in all I had a good time. Everyone I met was cool, especially Ari Lehman and Kane Hodder. I have a picture of Kane strangling me, for real. I thought he was going to kill me.
