Inside

So I got a chance to check out the latest big-hype picture from France, Inside and it turned out to be the sort of movie I wish I had never seen. I wrote it up for Cinema S.

I genuinely feel as if I have been through something traumatic. Inside is an outstanding horror movie that takes the typical stalker/survivor scenario and puts a uniquely European twist on the situation. It's unbearably tense 78 minutes. Unfortunately, every violent set piece is consistently taken a step or two too far. I'm not entirely sure who Inside was made to appeal to because it often feels like an assault on the senses that is nothing short of genuinely malicious.

These filmmakers hate you and this is what you get.

I feel like I need to talk about seeing this with a therapist or something.

I liked it but it never grabbed me the way its obviously managed to do with others. I felt it was a little too implausible at times, cheating here and there to get everything to work. And work it does, it just kept me at arms length due to its nefarious methods, is all.

Fun movie, though. It really did seem like an Argento setpiece, not unlike the final 5 or 10 minutes of TENEBRE, extended out to feature length running time.

I hadn't heard of this movie before I saw this thread so I checked it out tonight and it was very entertaining; once the action starts you just sit back and wonder what messed up thing will happen next, pretty good special effects too. For me, this one is a keeper.
I was looking for info on the DVD and came across this (and this). If you rent from Blockbuster you might want to get this one elsewhere.
