Word up Pimp Randy. I try not to be closed minded, but years of playing grindcore has made most run of the mill mainstream metal seem boring as hell. It has ruined me.
That is why I have to listen to bands like Zappa and The Mothers and Mike Patton's shit and Melt Banana. It is the only way I can get off now-a-days!
:D

Not true with this Metallica album though. I dig it. I really like the 10 minute long instrumental near the end (can't remember what it is called)

You sir are a fucking idiot. Get off your high-horse.
calm down, Yuppie. first off it was a joke, notice the fucking smiley? And second, I never called anyone an idiot for liking this load of crap, so quit shoving words in my mouth. Come on dude, it's the internet. No need to get worked up, but I can see you are defensive because my comment struck a nerve. Too bad.:smoke::tongue::skull:

Agreed. I hate the tone and volume of the snare. Not bad songs though, and I'll take this snare ANYDAY over the snare on the last album. I think this is their best CD since the Black album.

Wouldn't mind catching them live. I've never seen 'em.

It sounds like the drums are just mixed way too hot. But at least on the 180 gram vinyl version the bass it perfectly in the mix.

Im a yuppie, now THATS comedy.

Sounds great. Love hearing natural drums and hearing the cymbals ring. Album kinda reminds me of And Justice For All for some reason.

Same here. It reminds me of Justice meets Kill 'Em All.

closed minded? how? As in close minded to metal, or to music in general? I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Just because I have a different opinion, does not mean I'm close minded, so you're just using the term "close-minded" way to freely. and it's my opinion that Metallica fucking suck, are a bunch of clown pussy posers, are NOT metal, and that there are hundreds of other bands that are better, and that Metallica did not pave the way for ANY body that matters. Unless you think Trivium matters.:p

Ok since you brought up Trivium how are they not metal and what is metal if that is not? I am just curious. And what kind of music genre would you classify Metallica in? Please don't answer shitty pussy crap whatever.

Of Course everything from Pose Em All to And Justice...is thrash. I loved fuckin Justice and Ride for a long time when I was a kid. What Load and Re-load classify as? Post-Post-Post-Thrash/metal/bluesy garbage. St Anger? A Load of crap that is trying to be metal. The new stuff? Generic "metal". Happy? Hey, it's not like a great band like Venom has put out any better stuff recently, so don't see me as a troll, I just feel strongly about it.

Perfect example with Venom... though they also haven't fallen *quite* as hard as metallica has... but that may because they don't have the exposure and as many people buying their fucking shitty albums as metallica does.

Trivium aren't metal. To me, metalcore is not metal. It has a different approach all around. But I'm not going to change anyone's mind here, they'll just cross their arms and call me elitist. Enjoy Lamb of God and Trivium and God Forbid... I don't consider them metal. I won't ever accept them. They will always be inferior. It's really no hair off my balls if other people listen to them, but I can't put that stuff in the same category as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Immortal, Helloween, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden... those bands (to me) have an integrity that Trivium and Lamb of God and those kinds of bands just don't have.
Death to false metal! It is sacrilege! Give me metal or give me DEATH!

Not to start an argument, but I'm genuinely curious - what is it about Lamb of God that lacks integrity to you?

This is going to sound like the biggest cop-out answer ever, but there's really no other way for me to explain it. This will not satisfy anyone. Just saying that I do understand this.

It's intangible a lot of times. There's something about their sound, the energy and vibe they give off that doesn't jive with what metal is about in my eyes. It's a bit arbitrary, a bit opinion, but I think once you expose yourself to enough metal and really listen to enough metal from every end of the spectrum, there's something that is different about old school Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Kreator, Gamma Ray, Obituary, all that stuff. There's a lot of stuff that I don't really like that is still metal, so it's not that I don't like it. I really do think that most metalheads who have spent that kind of time listening to and absorbing everything metal will agree with me, but it also may be the people I choose to surround myself with.

There's really nothing I can say to make anyone change their mind. I simply stand by my belief that there's better music out there that is really and truly metal, and I'll never accept metalcore as a part of the metal scene. I don't mean that in a malicious way, It's nothing personal against anyone who disagrees with me, and I'm sure Randy and the dudes in LoG are really nice people and such. I just won't call them metal.

And i'm still disappointed that people think it's legitimate to say that just because they haven't done anything better in 15 years that it's ok to accept the new Metallica album. it's not very good on its own merits... why settle for mediocrity?

I find it interesting how different people define what is metal. Drakul I wasn't trying to be a dick just curious of what you thought was metal. I have always thought there are different kinds of metal From Hair metal to death metal but I guess that is why labeling stuff sucks. Metal is a vague word now in music.

...Or maybe one can have an appreciation for many different types of metal regardless of what lame-ass subgenre title is affixed to it. I pretty much like every band that's been mentioned in this thread (except Trivium, they're alright I guess, I just can't seem to get on board with them) and I'd classify them all as "metal".

Lamb of God are definitely inferior. I fell asleep during their set at ozzfest, and that singer thinks he is some badass when in true life I myself could probably hand his over to him:dsmoke: their music is NOT metal, it's total crap, and they are fucking posers

as someone who has listened to metal since 1985, and every facet of metal one can possibly think of and many that most have never dreamed of, i think lamb of god or slipknot rank up there in the metal realm as deservedly as motley crue or manowar. manowar is worshipped as all things metal, yet to me are the biggest joke in the music world. but, i still accept them as metal. this new metallica album sucks. plain and simple. it can be called metal. it certainly is more metal than anything they have put out this decade. but it sucks. and ironicly it also blows.

I stick with the Bob Seger theory:
And Seger sayeth onto the Earth: Today's music ain't got the same soul, I like that old time rock 'n roll
and what Bob is trying to say here is, today's version of yesterdays style is no less relevant it just has a different soul or attitude if you will. This is the same music interpreted by a different generation.
