One step forward, two steps back...

Post by Jonathan »

While living on Cap Hill for a number of years, I heard story upon story every month about random beatings on the streets of gays. People from outside the neighborhood would come on the weekends just to beat the crap out of someone.

How is that not like lynchings of blacks decades ago? Innocent victims beaten, sometimes to death, for no reason other than who they are.

Prop 8 down in California passed. Why do so many people feel gay people shouldn't marry each other? How are YOU intimidated so much by what two people do, that you feel it necessary to prevent them from doing it?

Most of the gay and lesbian people I've met have had a higher level of intelligence, compassion, sense of humor and even spirituality than those I've known who are straight. It's ridiculous that they don't have the same rights as me.
Take a picture, trick. I'm on a boat, bitch.

I agree with you 100%. I heard Sarah Palin refer to Homosexuality as a "choice" that her gay friend made. It seems to be a rampantly running myth that homosexuals actually make a conscious choice to fall in love with the same sex. I had a friend who tried his hardest to overcome his natural urges and be hetero. He wanted to love women, but it just didn't feel natural. He finally accepted who he was, but his family, including brother and parents, disowned him. All because of something he had no control over.

This truly bothers me to no end. This is Jim Crow bullshit. I know plenty of gay people and they are cool as fuck. They are human beings. You don't make a choice when it comes to what is natural. You are wired that way. And every species has a certain amount of animals within their species that are gay. There is nothing wrong with it.

The fact that prop 8 passed is truly sad, indeed. What's worse is that constitutional amendments are meant to EXPAND the rights of Americans, not RESTRICT. For all of the positive steps we took forward in this election cycle, we took one big, tragic step backward, that in 20 or 40 years from now, will be looked upon as a terrible injustice, just as Jim Crow and slavery are looked upon now.

For as much pride as I feel for voting our first Black president into office, I feel so much shame for what the citizens of California, Arizona and Florida did to the homosexual community. Seperate but equal is not equal.
Hate the religion and pity the believer.

Homophobia is one thing, but what you're talking about is altogether different. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I spent a LOT of time in the performing arts (drama, music theatre, etc.), but I've NEVER had any issues with homosexuals. And I grew up in a fuckin' redneck, chew spit down the side of your truck, closed-minded, right-wing farming community!!!

I'll never understand what makes people feel SO threatened by the way someone lives their life, that they'll go to the trouble of encouraging laws to be enacted FORBIDDING it.

It's the civil rights issue of our generation.

I agree with you homos. We should have a bunch of fag weddings and then when we get them all in a group like that together, rush in and beat the shit out of them!! Who's with me? Let's vote it legal here in WA!!!! Every gay wedding equals a room full of lynchable people.

I think it's more than just humans liking or disliking a particular type of person.

Many insurance companies are against same sex marriages, as well as other big corporations that will loose money by such unions.

I myself grew up in the vacationing areas for most of the gays, just north of San Fran. We had womans weekend, bear weekend, and a few other weekends in my home town that celebrated the gay lifestyle.

I remember one of my landlords when I lived down there was gay and he married a lesbian just so one could be insured by the other. Their partners lived with them. I always thought it was stupid/sad that they had to go to such extremes just to be insured.

Imperator's Psychology Lesson of the Day:

Gay Bashers alot of the time are individuals with a disturbed psyche, who battle with their own feelings of homosexuality, and project the rage and shame they feel at themselves onto open victims-openly gay people.

Dr. Lecter told me that.

I think when it's this extreme, they're actually more afraid that it's how they secretly want to live.

If gay marriage was legal, they may be tempted to head down the altar...

No, your description of someone that feared gays reminded me of Ryan.

are you two nerds trying to point out that a lot of serial killers are also homosexuals???? If so I am not sure where you are going with that, but I do see that if they can get married, at least the FBI could track where most of the homos are and maybe use it to match up to killings in the surrounding area. Good points!

you missed the point. a good percentage of gay bashers have strong homosexual tendencies. If serial killers are gay, they'll kill other gay people. They usually don't hide the fact they are gay, as gay bashers do.

are you suggesting that we let the gay homocidal maniacs go to town killing all the other homos they pick up at the bars, then we find them and let the gay bashers bash them and kill them, and THEN we sentence the gay bashers to death for being secretly gay and comitting a hate crime to hide it? I don't think we have enough info to do all that, just us on this board. Great idea though.
