What're ya reading?
I don't feel like rhyming this morning, so...
I recently just finished reading my out-of-print Christmas gift Attic by Katherine Dunn (author of Geek Love) and finally just started and am barreling through The Golden Compass with book II and III of His Dark Materials to follow.
Still lying in wait are: Truck (also out-of-print) by Katherine Dunn and Clive Barker's The Thief of Always comic book.
How's about you's?

Last night I finished Daniel Silva's "Secret Servant". It's the second to latest book with the main character Gabrial Allon, an Israeli spy/assasin/art restorer. Light years ahead of Tom Clancy, and they're Je.ws!
Will pick up the next Silva "Moscow Rules" that just came out in hardcover.
And just finished Vince Flynn's "Protect And Defend". Also the second to latest book with a re-occuring character. These are political espionage.
I'm a sucker for spy novels. Especially post-9/11. More so the Israeli ones.

Take a picture, trick. I'm on a boat, bitch.

Just started Stephen King's "Song of Susanna". Just finished "Wolves of the Calla".
Working on reading The Watchmen graphic novels, cuz everybody has told me to read it.
The His Dark Materials books are fucking sweet. Gotta love an anti christian children's book.

I have never read a Michael Crichton book before, so I decided to give it a shot with Prey. Its eh. He has some writing style flaws and is a little wordy in this book, but its an interesting topic.
I have The Gunslinger forever on the must read list but I make it 1/3 of the way, get bored put it down and 2 months later try to pick up where I left off. Not working so well. I know I know, just get through it.
Once my fella finishes The Amber Spyglass, I will be starting His Dark Materials again. Best books I have read in..... forever.
The next one I will pick up will be Shutter Island (before the movie comes out)
and I hate to admit it, but I might actually read Twilight, just don't tell anyone. Gotta see what the hype is about.

whenever in down time, i usually have a book to read, or I'm angry person. And when I'm reading, once I put down one I pick up another...
Since the beginning of December, I've read "The Dark Son", about some screwed up kid who tries to blame being adopted on killing in cold blood...then I read the OOP "Legion" by none other than William Peter Blatty himself...good book! Will make you think as well. Then I read the "I-5 Killer" by Anne Rule, not a bad book, it was good, but I felt it was a little short and lacking, and the pictures were ripped out of the book, and you can't find more than one picture of this sick fuck on google to see what he looked like. Right now I'm reading "Lust Killer" by the same author, and like the I-5 Killer, it's about an Oregon based murderer, and so far is a better read than the I-5 Killer.
I also have a copy of Lords of Chaos...the "black metal bible" book, simply because there is really nothing else to by a Barnes and Noble (had a gift card)...I read already what I needed to read in it, other than that, it's a crappy, slanted book, and anyone into black metal who call it their bible, are just as ridiculous as the book and the people in it, and WHO wrote it.
I'm looking to get the Pet Semetary book, as I read somewhere that it's far more disturbing than the movie, which is the case half the time...but the thing that really makes me want to read it, is that Stephen King said he regrets writing it because of the content....score!

Ms. Red might I suggest you read a book from Mr. Bentley Little. He is one sick and twisted fuck and even Mr. King has bowed down to him. I think I have read all but 5 or so of his books and the average time per book is 2-3 days. Check out this link below for a little more info.

Well... almost all time with the exception of Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile for example in encorporating the details, but those didn't have the same type of 'horror' as say, Pet Semetary or The Shining. My point being it's REALLY rare to have an adaptation outshine the book.imperator_Drakul wrote:heh, I always said that too until I read "The Rules of Attraction" by Bret E. I've only come across one book EVER that I liked the movie better and that was Once were Warriors.

I found this on that link.
August 29: More MASTERS OF HORROR season-two details - on SHOWTIME
We reported here that the filmmakers helming the final three shows of MASTERS OF HORROR’s second season have been announced, and while on set with series creator Mick Garris as he filmed his own entry, VALERIE ON THE STAIRS, Fango got a few further details on what to expect from them. Peter (THE CHANGELING) Medak is already prepping the adaptation of Bentley Little’s THE WASHINGTONIANS, and will be the 10th director this season. “Peter Medak made one of the greatest ghost-story movies of all time here in Vancouver,” Garris says. “THE CHANGELING is a masterpiece. We’ve been trying to get the right combination of talent for [THE WASHINGTONIANS]; Johnathon Schaech, who wrote it with Richard Chizmar, will be playing the lead.”
I HAVE seen The Washingtonians which gives me a better perspective (off the top of my head, anyway) on what he might be all about. Rad, I will check his shit out. What's a good one to start with?
And thanks!
I made the Devil do it.
Any of them really, I think i started with the house and just went from there. I went to the local used paperback store and bought everyone they had and got hooked on them. I am just finishing up Dominion and it so far has been the most fucked up thing I have read by him and am loving every minute of it. When you start reading him let me know what you think.

I concur! and with the whole Shawshank, Stand By Me, Green Mile...Evil Red wrote:All of the time, actually.
Red, when Vish is finished, we'll all have to go grab a drink of some sort and geek out.
I'm in a slump. I haven't read anything since I started moving in November. I miss it, hopefully I get my routine back down soon.
I have a list. There are a couple on there that I think you would enjoy as well. When I find it, I'll clue you in.
There are two means of refuge from the misery of life - music and cats.

Turns out sex is messy. After good sex? Whew... all sorts of sticky funk goin' on. Girly fluids and cherry flavored love lube and spermicide and semen and saliva all over everything. It's like a rape kit exploded or something equally insane. Reeks like sweat and latex and lust. Damn, gettin' kinda turned on here.

Have your woman read to you, and make sure she gives each character a different voice.
