Erm... Maybe I'm just blonde, but I thought that the financial institutions got a ton of cash, and the car dealerships got a couple months of operating expenses while they submitted plans for approval, that wasn't exactly forthcoming. Specifically, I thought he refused to give Chrystler more money until they figured something out with Fiat? Something about throwing good money after bad. Maybe I missed something....

it was the second request that Obama basically told em to get fucked. Which should have been said in the first place, along with the insurance and wall street fucks who got billions! after reading up on Chrysler, they were bailed out back in 1979 also, sept 7th 1979.

They paid that loan back eighteen months early. Carter lost the election in Michigan partly because he told Iacocca and Chrysler to fuck off when they first asked for the money. Reagan campaigned on that. The GOP actually went to UAW meetings during that campaign and promised the autoworkers help with keeping the "darker citizenry" out of the unions in return for their support if the GOP supported the federal loan in Congress. Carter eventually bowed to the pressure from Congress and signed the bill. Reagan then campaigned on that in the more conservative States with no UAW voters, calling it a bailout and near-socialist government interferance in buisiness.

The engineer who thought of that was Dick Cheney.

Iacocca was brought back to Chrysler 78 after the previous CEO, who had ousted Icocca in 73, had totally run the company into the ground by refusing to adapt to the new market as well as just basically selling junk cars. That market being the fuel-efficiency and emission regulations. The gas crisis first hit in 74, right after the Isreali-Egyptian war, when Saudi Arabia led OPEC into the oil embargo as payback for US support of Isreal. Thats when gasoline first topped a dollar a gallon. Gasoline went from about 40 cents a gallon to over a dollar in less than two years. Chrysler was still building 10 mpg rattletrap gas pigs in the late 70's and had offered nothing in the way of more fuel-efficent cars at all. They also had several very large and expensive recalls during that period.

Ford and GM at least were trying to do something, even if the result was deathtrap cars.

All the Neocon jackasses nowadays blame Carter, but Ford was President when the embargo first hit.

The US oil companies and automobile companies have always worked hand-in-hand, that is now biting the car builders industries in the ass. Too bad its all those layed off autoworkers who get to pay the price of the company officers bad decisions.

And who do all the neoconmen pundits blame?

Why, the Unions of course.

It's easy to blame the neocons, but if I'm not mistaken it is Obama who just cut Chrysler loose while mortgaging our future tax base to prop up a corrupt banking oligarchy.

Maybe it's time to look at things in terms that aren't right vs. left but rather we the people vs. the ones who have been selling us down the river.

DF Nixon was Pres when the embargo first hit not Ford.

Iacocca was with Ford in 1973.

The only reason Chrysler paid its loan back, back then is they sold off Chrysler Defense to General Dynamics. What do they have left to sell off now to pay this bullshit loan off?

Heres a good read into what happened in 79-

http://uspolitics.about.com/gi/dynamic/ ... 00Aes.html

Cheney voted against the Chrysler bailout in 79 andjust to throw some other bullshit out there about that moron. Cheney voted to keep the congressional salary cap in 1982. He was also co-sponsor to HR 3939 which you like.

Now the Demoshits and Republifucks of today are all the same, elitist cunts who expect us, the taxpayers to pay for all of their rich buddies fuckups! Every single fuckface who voted all these "bailouts" cash giveaways, needs to find themselves a fucking rope and follow Freddie Mac's asshat!!
