Seattles' own Rayne Stone sounds WAY better than THAT guy.

If everyone just chilled out a bit and listened to some rock&roll with their titties out, the scene would be a happier healthier place to be. -Deathboy- 2/28/08

I know that those who post on Blabbermouth are of a "special" kind of stupid but I love this little gem of a comment...
In all seriousness though, and I'm not trying to take anything away from the guy, I never saw him as being that integral to their sound. Facelift was a great album and Dirt is arguably the pinnacle release in their catalog. He was there from the beginning, through both of those albums and rode all the way to the top with them. However, to say that the band faltered in his absence is just fucking moronic.
Yes, they just fell the fuck apart after Mike Starr dropped out during the Dirt tour. Forget that Jar Of Flies was the first EP to ever top the charts and contained the band's only number one single. Piss on the fact that their self titled album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and has since gone double platinum. Oh and that MTV Unplugged performance?! What a flop!! Indeed, Mike Starr was the secret ingredient in the stew that is know as Alice In Chains. It's a funny thing, Starr was quite an anonymous member of AIC but when you think of it the band really when down the drain when he left.
Well, probably just a coincidence.

*Sigh*.
WTF.
No sir, I don't like it. Nope not one bit.
Hmmm. How 'bout NO.
and every other sarcastic flip i can think of.
Can it be chalked up to poor quality recording?
just sayin'.

I met him in 99 when I picked a buddy up from King County Jail a little after midnight when they were releasing guys.
There was a guy sitting on the steps outside that looked like he just got released and when I walked up he said "I can't believe they threw the bass player for Alice In Chains in jail" so I inquired with him as to what he was talking about. He said he was Mike Starr and my buddy confirmed it because I was always into actual metal and would not have known who the bass player was for some Seattle band that happen to be wearing the right clothes when the fashion phase known as grunge broke out.
So anyway, the clown asked if we could give him a ride to his sisters house - which he turned out breaking into and waking her up. We slammed a few beers with him and then he asked us if he could borrow $40, and I was like WTF isn't this guy getting royalties, publishing or whatever the fuck record labels send band members for their CDs. Seriously, I was hanging with Cantrell in 94 at a party and he accidently dropped about $100 worth of cocaine in a bathroom toilet and when a buddy of mine reached in to get the bag, Cantrell just flushed it. So why the fuck years later was his bass player having to bum a ride home from jail and borrow $40. My buddy "loaned" it to him and we never saw him again. What a waste of human life and four strings.

Well, the dude has been loaded beyond belief for years now. He was booted from AIC after his drug intake was even worse than the other guys (much like Steven Adler in GNR). You have to be seriously jacked up to get booted from those bands. If anything, here's to hoping rehab will help him finally get his shit together.
