Megadeth and Slayer to co-headline "Canadian Carnage"
Oh my god. It was meant to be... I JUST got my passport pics and application fees all ready to turn in tomorrow and then I come home and read THIS!
MEGADETH AND SLAYER TO CO-HEADLINE
"CANADIAN CARNAGE" JUNE TREK
Monday, April 27, 2009 - Talk about a mind-blowing line-up. Slayer and Megadeth - two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre - will perform together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four shows in Canada in late June. The tour, dubbed "Canadian Carnage," will also feature Machine Head and Suicide Silence, and will see Megadeth and Slayer each closing two of the four shows. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, May 2, and will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets and at Ticketmaster online.
Few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named "Best Live Band" by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. Slayer - guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo - is currently in Los Angeles recording its as yet untitled tenth studio album with Greg Fidelman producing and Rick Rubin executive producing. Fans were given an early taste of the brutal new Slayer material when "Psychopathy Red," a song inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who confessed to savagely murdering 56 children, was recorded last October and then leaked online. Attendees of "Canadian Carnage" will be treated to Slayer performing "Psychopathy Red" live on stage. Plans are to release the new album in July, in tandem with the Mayhem Festival tour Slayer is co-headlining with Marilyn Manson.
With over 20 million albums sold worldwide, the icon that is Megadeth culminated earlier this month, with Dave Mustaine's acceptance of the highly coveted "Golden God" accolade and the band's headline performance at the inaugural Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles. Megadeth - lead guitarist/lead vocalist Dave Mustaine, lead and rhythm guitarist Chris Broderick, bassist James Lomenzo and drummer Shawn Drover - is currently recording their 12th studio album in Los Angeles with Andy Sneap. The disc is scheduled for release later this summer to coincide with a full scale world tour. Known for their ferocious live show, Megadeth will once again bring this intensity to their loyal throng of Canadian followers.
Bay Area titans Machine Head add to the carnage as main support. Machine Head - vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn, guitarist Phil Demmel, bassist/backing vocalist Adam Duce and drummer Dave McClain - are currently touring in support of their critically-acclaimed and Grammy nominated The Blackening. Since its release, the band has been awarded both Best Album at the Metal Hammer Awards and Album of the Year at Kerrang's annual ceremony that same year. And with a fan base so rabid, they've actually been banned from certain U.S. venues, Machine Head will bring with them the relentless stage show they are renowned for.
There is little doubt in anyone's mind that Suicide Silence is one of the frontrunners of the new wave of American metal, a statement further validated as the group won the "Best New Talent" award at the inaugural Revolver Golden Gods Awards, held at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on April 7. The group was also hailed as the event's breakthrough artist by the L.A. Times, but make no mistake that this extreme juggernaut is not resting on its laurels and is about to take things up a notch with their highly-anticipated sophomore release, No Time to Bleed, which was produced by acclaimed producer Machine (Lamb of God) and set for a June 30 release.
Dates for the Megadeth/Slayer co-bill are:

Not that I know of. It's just that it's been grossly publicized that Dave and Kerry don't exactly see eye to eye. However, Dave and Tom could have bible study together.. or something.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure the amount of fun had tonight is or should be illegal in both of our countries. hehehe...Chris Slack wrote:Have fun!
At the beginning and a bit disjointed at this late hour. (Sorry.)
The lovely Metalgoddess and myself arrived early in Van and got our... uh... my buisness out of the way by making the obligatory run through Bunker Costco for my fifth food group. After a phone call to a friend to announce our arrival, we had the supreme pleasure of being turned away from 3. Fucking 3! empty event parking lots due to timing. (In American... we we're too early, money or not!?!?) Canada seems to like themselves some last motherfucking minute parking, but whatever... we found a nice place across the street for the amazingly good deal of only 15 bucks. (compared to $25 minimum) Well, technically $12, but I went a bit retarded in my happiness and fucked off an extra Loooney and Tooney in the process but, meh, semantics. Still much cheaper than was expected.
I then, being slightly turned around took Carrrie on a super scenic walking tour of junkies and whores on the (long way back around) to Granville Street for some Irish grub and drinks. I had called my friend 'Chicken' to meet up with us and was super pleased that he was able to get out of work long enough to meet us. (He's the producer for SYL, Zimmers Hole, GWAR etc. )
So, after a few drinks and his refusal at buying a ticket since he's an "industry" person, him and I ended up having a hilarious argument about how we were going to get his dumb ass into the show, so late in the game. Usually Gene Hoglan hooks him up but being that Gene's in LA recording with Fear Factory at the moment, he was afraid to disturb him with another phone call, so... fucking yours truly called instead.
Kind of funny actually since I was telling Carrie that she should just expect the unexpected with me since wierd shit tends to all in my lap, and here I was making the call for him. Turns out we of course didn't have enough notice and the recommended contacts wern't answering, but I was CONVINCED there wasn't anything to worry about and that he needed to go with us anyhow. (Anyone that knows me well should know how goofey that is. I tend to be anally prepared to a fault.)
So, we hoofed ourselves back to GM Place and in the first 30 seconds manged to get him a scalped ticket for half of the $90 Carrie and I paid for. And a decent seat at that!
We went in and dismissing the first 2 bands got another drink. It was then time to get my wrist band for my floor ticket and in order to not get sucked into the crowd, Chicken came with me. Now, I had a floor ticket, Carrie printed her seat online and the scalped ticket he just bought was also balcony and therefore, a different colored ticket. Right when I entered the line to grab my wristband, smack between my feet was a ticket, on the floor, all by it's lonesome, the same color as mine so without missing a beat, I picked it up and before he had any idea what just happened, I shoved it into his hand and told him to shut up, play along and follow me. Haha. That shit was of course a floor ticket, so we got him one too!
Not 5 minutes later I hear someone bellowing my nick name along with Chicken's and turn around grinning my brains out to discover that Val (The Heathen) from Zimmers Hole was yelling at us both!
Of all the times I've managed to be around him, I've never been entirelly sure if he actually remembers me or is just being polite (I mean geez... I even admin on his goddamn forums) so... my mouthy self basiclly asked him just that and after a good natured repremand for "busting his balls" he of all goddamn things totally stopped and actually thanked me and said he had meant to thank me for among other things, all the whoring I did for the new Mechanism CD. This time I was a bit blown away since that was actually few months ago and I really didn't think anyone noticed any of that shit. Which was fine. But suddenly was MUCH better since it DID go noticed. And yeah, I officially know now he does know who I am. haha Sorry... fangirl moment.
Anyhow, we blabbed and his girlfriend of all damn places, well... she used live not 10 miles away from me. HAHA!
Jesus. The wierd shit sometimes...
So... SLAYER.
Alright, I'm not going to lie. Between Tom and Dave, I GOO'D all over the place. Those two, hands fucking down get sexier and sexier with age!
Just looking at 'em makes my knees weak! Tom's shit eating grin and Dave's sneer... M-M-MMMMM!!!
Anyhow, this was pretty funny, well funny to me and the couple other American's. When intoducing Mandatory Suicide he asked given the foreign state of affairs, if we (the crowd) would die for our freedom. Oddly enough, Canada went so silent at the remark that Tom was suddenly at a loss for words, grumbled a very sacrastic "Obviously NOT!"
On a side note, Jeff is looking a bit fat these days.
Got another Slayer guitar pick too. I have a bunch now. haha
Fucking KILLER show as always then Megadeth came out. They played a few songs from the upcoming album and brought the house down with Symphony of Destruction and Peace Sells. Me, I almost died of happiness during Darkest Hour as well. About 4 songs deep he switched guitars to his very pretty, silver signature Dean (Without the wammy. See! Ima learned, Hodge! Thanks! Knew it instantly! )
God. What a great night. I've already said too damn much yet haven't shared anything, so I'm just going to ungracefully end my typing here. Yeay codiene!
Here's a few shitty cell phone pics too since camera wern't allowed. Got shitty vid of both bands too, but I'll spare ya. You're welcome.
