Man, you really are just flat out dumber'n dog shit aintcha.

Shit like that is why the teabaggers will never make any headway in American politics. They may get elected once or even twice, but as soon as they open their mouths in a real discussion with intelligent, knowledgeable people about an important subject they might just have to make an important decision about, they get laughed out of the room.

Don'cha know.

I think there are a lot of people responsible for this, and it makes sense that the problem is that the oil is getting so hard to get to that we're drilling beyond our technological capabilities. It seems to me, though, that the problem is the all-or-nothing thinking. OK, so it takes oil to make solar panels. With states like Arizona and Nevada on the grid, lets use some of that oil to put solar panels on every last one of those houses -- then we don't even need to have solar farms. That would be a semi-finite investment to improve the situation, but not resolve it -- a big shiny band-aid to buy us time, probably rather a lot. Here's another one: why are we talking about lining up all the BP execs and shooting them? Cause we're mad? Pffft! What does that get us? Take the head guy and give him 3 days to come up with something that works. When he fails, shoot him, and get the next guy. Give him 3 days, then shoot him. I'm betting the Jr. Execs figure it out before we get to them AND we get to shoot some of them. Really, it's all about balance. Well, and it shouldn't just be the BP execs. We should get a couple from each of the responsible parties and the department that was responsible to oversee them. I think that would go better, really. There are things that each of us can do. Food? If you have a yard or a balcony -- HELP OUT! Grow something. If we get one less meal a year out of it, that's one less meal that had to be shipped somewhere times how many people? Oh! And as a bonus, it won't have any High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. And your cigarettes? After you put them out, strip them and use the leftovers to make "tobacco tea". It's an excellent pesticide. Not sure what that says about my lungs right now, but there it is. Not a solution -- but it helps. People used to do stuff like this all the time. We've quit and now we're consuming at an AMAZING rate. It's just dumb.

Fuck. Top Kill isn't working. They're still trying to salvage the fucking well.

When they cut that riser, thats going to open up the hole on top of the BOP wide open. The mud slowed the flow down but didn't stop it. I guess it'll be a few more weeks of gushing bullshit from BP oil.

You have absolutely no fucking clue what or where I stand on anything fuckface! I like talking a lil shit on here to you because I find it amusing that you actually believe anyone reads your long winded babbling rants of complete bullshit! and how much of a rise I get out of you is humorous.

Since you are a machinist, how you like making a living on them bad oil companies?!?! You make a living off being a fucking hypocrite!! Your life and paycheck is made from the people you say you hate and think should be lined up and executed!! Typical fucking hippy libtard, if you feel so strongly about this bullshit you would NOT be making or taking money from the "evil oil companies!!!"

I know, my biggest worry right now is the big election coming up. We have to all make a HUGE decision on what we want. It is kind of scary because what we vote for could be around and affect us for years and years to come. I for one am voting for the red flavor, I have heard some rumours about the white being the most popular right now, but I am rooting for the red all the way. I found it refreshing and tasty. It seems to go well with almost any meal too. I implore you, please vote for the red flavor this year!

You may be right Joe, but I'm not relying on wishful thinking moving forward. Things are going to change, and I can't put my faith in human nature to make things OK. On the whole I think people have proved to be sort of a nasty bunch. Now that we're used to consuming as much as we do, the downslope can't help but be a bit brutish.

We're already seeing the effects of peak oil in the form of endless war and increased severity of environmental disasters. It's not theoretical. It's happening!

Not that I let it consume me. Things ARE going to be fine. But I still work towards anticipating possibilities.

Don't get me wrong now. You are among the wisest people I know when it comes to preparing for the future. Sometimes you just need to see how awesome things are for you today. You've got a beautiful family and you will have a great couple of decades watching your little girl grow. I doubt she'll drive an SUV when she's older, but she'll be OK and she'll be happy.

Alright mother fuckers. Ophidian here. I just got word that this thread was getting out of control and as usual - the socialist, statist, hater of mankind DeathFrogg was ranting and raving about his nonsense and b.s. again.

Here is how the world should and would work under a constitutional republic, free market, limited government system and that excludes any scenarios that involve executing the "corrupt" CEO's of BP, current politicians and or government favors for large corporations that donate to political parties.

Lets assume we are starting the world over from scratch and skipping thousands of years of human evolution and instantly appear in 2010 and a huge oil spill occurs like the BP one.

Ok.

Within the paramters of a free market (which involves political freedom AND economic freedom) there would be absolutely no preventative regulatory measures: which is nothing more than the use of force by a third party (the government) against another party (a corporation) using a crystal ball to predict any and all future problems that may arise.

Using the fact that man is a free entity and any government coercion is a violation of his rights as long as he does not violate the rights of another human and understanding that the basic premise and foundation of human rights is liberty (and that involves economic freedom) -

BP should have been allowed to drill in international waters and access oil:

Unitl a spill like this occurs and then an objective court system (unlike the one we have now) would solve the leak by allowing immediate lawsuits to take place suing the company beyond the point of solvency and reimbursing the parties that were injured, such as inhabitants of the Gulf of Mexico coast (inidividuals and business people).

After such a lawsuit and a judgement (in the absence of corrupt politicians interferring) - BP's assets would be seized and they would be banned from

a. drilling for oil within a certain distance of the area affected ever again
b. maintaining retail locations in the same geographical region/country/state, etc
c. and a unified and well armed militia from the area affected would after the judgement is issued - launch a military strike on any and all BP locations in the region, and issue licenses to kill to it's highly trained units to track down and take out any and all remaining BP CEO's, executives and those responsible for the spill

With retribution such as that pending - all oil companies would ensure there own survival (not just financially as a corporation, but personally) and make sure that spills like this did not occur.

It is IN FACT - the same statist - socialist - facist idealogy that DeathFrogg supports, worships and preaches that caused the entire mess and has enabled those responsible to walk free up until this point. His corrupt system of man vs. man and government regulation that he claims would have solved this -actually caused it. As all goverments are as corrupt as the men that run them.

DeathFrogg is just mad that he doesn't make millions of dollars owning an oil company like the executives at BP and for a variety of reasons.

Mainly, if he had the money, he might be able to hire a personnal trainer to help him lose some fucking weight, and secondarily. . . . he might be able to get laid at some point, although I think a reasonably hot bitch might charge him more than her normal rate because he is a hightly disturbed individual and hardly the kind of guy that could get a chick off harder, longer and better than a three week old cucumber.

Point is. Free markets would prevent this because there would be actual accountability - not the mixture of government-corporate hand job relationships that are the norm in society today.

Obama would have stopped the oil leak three weeks ago if he was promised a life time supply of watermelons and fried chicken by a BP executive. It's not in the US governments best interest to do so, because it's as corrupt as the company that let it happen.

Later, bitches

Ophidian

Wow, talk about some twisted fucked up logic. Thats a serious run of divide by zero errors right there.
Free markets would prevent this because there would be actual accountability - not the mixture of government-corporate hand job relationships that are the norm in society today.
In your mythical "free market", who would hold them accountable? You? The law? oh, thats right, in your fabled free market system there would be no laws to hold against them, that would be socialist regulation.
BP should have been allowed to drill in international waters and access oil
They were allowed. They were issued the permits for this particular well back in 2003, and were given their requested exemptions from inspections and equipment requirements back then. The drilling rig was first emplaced and started operations in February of 2007.

They also threw parties and gave methamphetemine, cocaine, free tropical vacations, plane tickets, exclusive golf course access, and likely cash payments to the very people that were supposed to be policing their operation. The Chief of the MMS has already lost her job over this, and there are more firings to come as soon as this shakes out. Hopefully there will be criminal proceedings against the company and the people who took those bribes, and the corporate personnel who authorized those bribes.

BP has just about the worst safety record in the entire industry. They killed several workers at Cherry Point a few years ago, and tried to clean the accident site before Federal and State inspectors were allowed to enter the refinery grounds. They did the same thing in Texas just last year. They have literally thousands of safety citations that have been left unenforced. The Bush administration had completely stripped the MMS of inspection personnel in its first term. Bush and the GOP had also stripped funding for OSHA and the EPA.

BP has many times been caught red-handed falsifying engineering paperwork and inspection paperwork. The Alyeska pipeline spill in Alaska a couple years ago went totally unnoticed for MONTHS until an Alaska State game warden happened to fly over in a helicopter. That spill was almost as big as the Exxon Valdez, and got almost NO press. BP is still fighting that lawsuit.

Why are you, a devoted nationalist and supporter of the American Revolution, defending a British Corporation that has consistently refused to obey the laws the American People have put in place over the years to try to prevent this sort of thing? Hell, even in Britain, drilling operations like this are required to double up on BOPs, acoustic triggers and other safety equipment. The chemical dispersants BP is using in the Gulf Of Mexico right now are illegal in every country in the world, except the United States, because they kill everything they touch, they do not go away, and they do not actually do anything to solve the problem of oil in the water. All it does is spread it out and allow the oil to mix with the water, poisoning everything that comes in contact with it. It destroys fisheries for decades. The shit is terribly lethal.

Once again, how would this be enforced? If there are no regulatory laws, there are no grounds for a lawsuit. Thats what regulations are.

Texas and the US Federal Government filed lawsuits against Pemex after the Ixtoc spill in 1978, citing water quality violations, beach damage and loss of revenue and property damage resulting from that spill. Pemex, and the Mexican government thumbed its nose.

After such a lawsuit and a judgement (in the absence of corrupt politicians interferring) - BP's assets would be seized and they would be banned from

a. drilling for oil within a certain distance of the area affected ever again
b. maintaining retail locations in the same geographical region/country/state, etc
Funny, I said almost that exact same thing a few posts up. You cannot stop a spill with lawyers. You need the technical expertise and the materials and the engineers to do the actual work. BP has those experts, as does Halliburton and Transoceanic. Let the experts do their job, and then roll heads after the fact. What should happen is the company should have the corporate charter revoked completely, and the people responsible for the disaster put in prison. BP and who ever else cause this fuckup should be totally banned from ever doing business in the United States, forever.

c. and a unified and well armed militia from the area affected would after the judgement is issued - launch a military strike on any and all BP locations in the region, and issue licenses to kill to it's highly trained units to track down and take out any and all remaining BP CEO's, executives and those responsible for the spill
Military strikes? Hitmen? Private military? Like who?

Blackwater (s'cuse me, Xe) perhaps?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA....
Oh PLEASE.

Give. Me. A. Fucking. Break.
You gonna spill more oil, kill more workers and cause more environmental devastation to satisfy some need for vengeance? What would that solve? How about having actual regulations, requiring them to pay for inspections to enforce those regulations and enforce them with actual teeth instead of just allowing them to ignore and helping them hide the problems, as the Bush/Cheney administration did.

The object should be prevention of spilling the oil in the first place. Not just turning lawyers loose after the fact. The object should be having the ability to force them to stop operations until they unfuck the problems that do come up.

The only people responsible for this spill are the corporate heads of BP, and the government inspectors who were allowed to blow off their jobs for a few sheckels of silver.
Obama would have stopped the oil leak three weeks ago if he was promised a life time supply of watermelons and fried chicken by a BP executive.
This speaks for itself. All it demonstrates is the fact that you are a bigot, and that just presents the real basis for your opinion on the matter.

Go back to Stormfront, moron.

China would have executed every decision maker in this drilling project by now. If you fuck up on an epic proportion like this (Remember the geniuses who put melamine in baby formula?), the Chinese government quickly revokes your license to live. I do think their system is much better than ours when dealing with douchebaggery that results in shit like this.

But... This is the good ol' USA. BP will probably declare bankruptcy and just walk away from everyone they screwed over.

Saw a similar article a couple weeks ago. Amusing how folks think they could eke out a survival plan in a high rise apartment with no land, simply by hoarding.

Land is where its at. 40 acres minimum per family of four. 10 good acres per person in the household. If its flat, well watered, and has good sunlight you might be able to survive on it if the oil economy goes kerplooey. You'd need good horses, cows, mules, chickens, sheep (or Llamas or something that can be shorn for clothing wool), beehives, good blacksmithing skills, food preserving skills and sewing skills. You'd have to learn how to plow a field with a couple of mules and a steel moldboard plough. I've done that. As a research project in school. It took me 3 days to plow five acres, and I spent a fair amount of time with icepacks on my lower back and shoulders. Cut my hands to hell with the reins. Once upon a time, a good ploughman could do 20 acres a day that way.

Learn how to plant that field and then harvest by hand in a very short period of time. Learn what to watch for in terms of parasites, molds and soil nutrient deficiencies, then figure out how to remedy that without using synthetic fertilizers or chemicals.

You could possibly even generate a decent surplus if you could do a lot of the property up in greenhouse.

Maybe the willingness to tolerate your teeth rotting out of your head and destroying your spine by the time you're 50. Breaking fingers and stitching yourself or your kids up when you gash the fuck out of something meaty, with nothing but whiskey for aneasthetic if you're lucky enough to have any.

Handworking land like that, you're going to hurt the shit out of yourself eventually. A lot of people used to die on those old farms. It is dangerous work.

Seriously. Its possible. But not in a 40th floor three room condominium with six cats and a brain damaged yapper dog. Betcha these folks would starve themselves to keep their toy fox fucking bullshit terriers and poodles well-fed. I doubt any one of them could stomach hanging a hog by its back legs and cutting its throat, much less killing a chicken, dog, rabbit or a guinea pig.

I suppose Zombie Darwin is watching with great interest and amusement right now.

Oh well, it was a fun century while it lasted. Too bad we didn't actually learn anything from it.

I think what most people are expecting is not a sudden return to life as it was 500 years ago, but more like a gradual increase in scarcity of energy. That's pretty much the way I see it playing out, with a slow transition back to more labor intensive methods. Maybe back to a 1920s or 30s lifestyle over the next 50 years. Hopefully the fast-crash doom guys are wrong and your scenario won't be playing out that quickly although I guess anything is possible. This oil spill is coming at exactly the wrong time for the US, It's really gonna fuck things in ways that most people just aren't seeing.

We'll never see a life completely without petroleum. We'll just see a life where we pay a lot more for things derived from it... Pretty much everything.

In my opinion, this is a good thing. We need to stop raping the fucking planet so hard and this is going to force us to do just that. Instead of just being able to hop on a plane to anywhere in the world, it'll be a once-in-several-years occasion because it will cost a fortune. We'll have to think twice about just hopping in the car to take us everywhere. Food will cost more due to the production and transportation of it. We'll stop producing so much electronic waste because we won't be able to afford a new computer and cell phone every 2 years.

Oh yeah... and the US economy, which is based on a business model that is COMPLETELY dependent on growth, will fall. It simply cant survive without growth, and it can't grow without cheap oil. Watch as the USA engages other countries in war over the remaining reserves. The country that runs out of oil first, loses. Period.

Me personally, I am hording T-shirts. People always ask me "why you have so many T-shirts" and I reply with the fact that "some day after the bomb drops I will be standing on top of a huge mountain of T-shirts with a double barrel pointed at your head, ask me again then". See, I am a survivalist, and I agree with DF and do recommend you learning how to plow and grow food so I will have something to raid when I come to pillage your meager farm. A guy like me can rape and pillage at least 5 ploughman's houses in one day, so if a ploughman can plow 20 acres and I can raid 5 ploughmen, that is like 100 acres a day, payback for slavery. Repent for you sins ploughman, as I leave you there hungry and bare chested.

It is going to be tough living “off the grid”. It is true we will have to sew each other up with just the aid of whisky, and we will probably all swear a lot and drink in saloons. Our meals will mainly consist of meaty chicken-dogs or guinea pigs. Many people will be found dead in their green houses from over working their moldboards. I think the hardest part about going back to living like it’s 100 years ago is we will only have Sears catalog bra section and old pictures of our mother to masturbate to. I don’t know if I can go back to that. I have grown accustomed to internet porn and just found a bunch of good “tubes” recently where you can get pretty much anything. I also have invested in 2 Flesh lights and I do not want to lose them in the apocalypse. This doom shit is really bringing me down.
