Again, I'm sorry that I no longer have the time to provide a year-length recap of the new films I witnessed... but as for 2023, long story short?
The best film of 2023 was undoubtedly GODZILLA MINUS ONE.
The best flat-out HORROR film of 2023 in my book was TALK TO ME.
The most frustrating "middle ground" sort of genre film was BEAU IS AFRAID. Dynamite first hour, hideously self-indulgent and unnecessary second hour, and a third hour that gave back the energy but made me wonder why I wanted to spend so much time watching mental cruelty inflicted on this poor guy. I'm going back to MIDSOMMAR.
And if there's a bigger piece of pigshit in the previous year than WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY, I don't want to see it. Nor will I attend any more public-domain travesties from this "filmmaker" no matter how successful this one was.
