Japan makes crap too...

Post by DylanDog »

Just in case anybody was under the impression that I am too enamored of Japanese films and that I watch them through rose colored glasses, I'd like to make mention of the movie Ikenie (Sacrifice). I watched it last night and it was pretty much total garbage. It was like going back in time to see the worst 80's American horror film you could find and then adding the extra burden of watching it subtitled. It actually started off well enough with a gang of hoods killing a girl and her father, but not before he uses a spell to bring her back to life in the form of a avenging lifesize doll. From here on in though, it's just the same old inane murder spree we've seen a million times over, only very poorly done. The effects were bad, the acting was bad, the dialogue was bad, and the ending was terrible and too long in coming. Feel free to not watch this one...

I agree. I've seen my fair share of Japanese horror and there's tons of crap too. Any time there's some kind of creature / monster involved you're pretty much guaranteed it will suck. I think the straight up ghost stories have the best ratio of good-to-garbage.

Now, hands up who's seen LADY NINJA?

Its not like bad-bad but more bad-good, if you know what I'm saying.

You'll have to excuse me if I don't outline the plot as I didn't quite catch it, I was too busy absorbed by the series of startling viginettes. I'll just ramble off a few points of interest:

The characters announce their tricks prior to using them. 'Third Leg Hell' is a good one, its wielder's cock grows to pythonesque proportions, penetrating a female ninja. She retalitates with 'Big Ball Latern' (or something like that) which causes his penis and testicles to inflate and eventually explode in an eruption of golden glitter. 'Dick Stick' basically gives an inanimate log an erection to which another female ninja is unavoidably attracted to. As she mounts the wooden appendage, she pulls the 'Kind Milk' manouevre which chokes some guy who sucks on her nipple with the aforementioned curdled dairy product. Another chick sprays a guy in the face with a jet of titty milk but I can't remember what she called that one. Yet another female ninja fires multi-coloured balls out of her pubic region and they embed themselves in her foe's face. The list goes on...

Some guy playing some sorta flute/horn pulls a chick, Pied Piper-style, ties her up with rope and beats her with the instrument while she gets off on it.

The martial arts are uninspired, the sound effects belong to an 80's Capcom game, the video looks like it was made for TV. Apparently the 6th in a series...

Damn, I only just watched this a couple of hours ago but I've already forgotten most of it.

Oh well, was good for a laugh. Check it out.

You watched Lady ninja 6 too ,what a classic eh!If they boosted up the gore quota it would of been a bonafide Beaudy.I have to admit i was a bit dissapointed when that blokes nads burst into glitter.Cool scene though, up there with the one in Grims prairie tales or Hellbent? Another thing that pissed me off a little was, apart from some aerial stock footage of hills, most of the film seemed to be shot on some studio back lot.Overall quite interesting!

138: You want confusion, you ought to check out Pinochio 964 and Rubber's Lover. THOSE are completely bizarre movies.

Are those Japanese? The movies that have confused me the most are Tetsuo, Shock Shock Shock, Sweet Movie, The Begotten, and Wizard of Gore (Just the ending).

yup. both are Japanese, by the same director. They remind me a lot of Tetsuo in a way. It's all very bizarre stream of consciousness sci-fi kinda stuff. Interesting but they make very little sense.

I'm sure I've said this before, but for the new guy...I watched Pinocchio 3x w/o subtitles before finally getting a subbed copy and it seemed to make less sense with each subsequent viewing. So of course, it's one of my favorite movies! Image

BTW, has anybody heard anything about Fukui making any more movies? Last thing I heard was that little blurb in Eros in Hell where he said something about a movie about Virus' or something.

Lady Ninja sounds great as well. I'd really like to check that out. I should make a point of getting out to the Japanese video store far more often than I do.
