Ok, I don't have a DVD player so don't laugh at me ok?? Image

I was driving by a local video store that I know is going out of business, so I decide to go in and see if they had any good stuff. Low and behold I see Evil Dead II. I grab it you know, and keep on walking. Next I run into Humanoids from the Deep. Cheezy fish-film movie but it's still a pretty good flick for a horror buff like me(those mutants give new meaning to "fishious" beasts now don't they Image) Last but not least I found Xtro3: Watch the skys. Sadly, it wasn't the right tape in the box. It was the original. I'm not crying too hard though.

I know, VHS is deader than disco, but I can't really tell the difference. Besides, I like that "cheezy" feel I get when I watch old horror/sci fi movies on VHS.

Now's a great time to stock up on VHS, that's for sure. I wanted a DVD player for awhile, but it was actually for kung fu movies. DVD killed off (almost immediatly) widescreen VHS tapes, so I had to move on to get my letterboxed martial arts. Extras are cool though...

VHS is still a viable medium, if you ask me. Since I don't have a region free player I have to get a lot of the movies I dig that are R2 or R3 on bootleg VHS, and that's fine with me.

Howler, depending on your finances, a DVD player is a great thing. You can bag good ones for relatively cheap now. The one I bought can play NTSC/PAL standards, CD-R's loaded with MP3 files, VCD, a good deal of crap and it didn't cost more than $120. You ought to look into it.

Yes, DVD is the greatest creation of all time. Well, maybe not, but I really, really dig it. If you're a serious genre fan, though, I really would suggest saving up for a region-free player. There's just too much being released overseas that you'll need. I have no idea how LT can enjoy domestic dvds, yet still tolerate buying bootlegs. Which isn't to say I'm against VHS entirely, but only if the movie in question can't be had on dvd (or you don't like it enough to buy the super-duper special collectors edition limited 3 disc tin! Image) Especially now that there are companies out there releasing dvds aimed SPECIFICALLY at genre buffs.

Dave: seems like more and more of the movies I'm looking for are coming down in Region 0 versions now. So I don't really mind the Region 1 deck so much. I AM going to bag a Region Free player as soon as it's a financial option, though.

I haven't been buying many lately, but I've noticed several that I want seem to be region 2 PAL discs lately. It seems like for awhile there all the cool discs where coming from Asia, but now Europe's really picking up the slack as well.
