BURIAL GROUND coming to DVD!!!

Post by Darth Tanner »

For those of you who haven't heard yet...I just found out that Shriek Show plans to release Andrea Bianchi's BURIAL GROUND on DVD in Region 1 next year. The extras haven't been finalized yet, but they plan to include cast interviews if possible (I would love to see what Mariangela Giordano is up to these days). But it will still probably be good enough for me to ditch my bootleg. If all goes well, it could be released as early as April 2002. Happy news indeed. Bring it on!!!

On the topic of Shriek Show, they also have a ton of other cool titles planned for next year such as D'Amato's BUIO OMEGA and some Fulci flicks (including ZOMBIE 3). Click below to read the transcript for their recent chat on Horrordvds.com. It is definitely an interesting read to say the least:

Thanks, I'm glad you let me know before I dropped any dough on the Japan Shock discs. I've never heard of this company though. Are they any good? I've been jonesing to watch some half decent zombie flicks recently. (So why did I just buy an old Vestron Night of the Zombies tape? LOL)

Based on what I've heard, they are a pretty reliable company and put out decent discs. This summer they put out Fulci's DEMONIA on DVD. Haven't seen the disc yet, but I've heard nothing but good things from those who have (even if the film itself is one of Fulci's lesser efforts). They also have Jess Franco's KILLER BARBYS coming out soon as well as Deodato's JUNGLE HOLOCAUST. Along with Synapse, this company is definitely worth keeping an eye on as I'm sure they will please Euro fans with their planned releases next year.

Actually Anchor Bay is supposed to be releasing this on DVD next year (under the original title HELL OF THE ZOMBIES). Not too sure about extras other than it says "Uncut with interview". I still thought the film was unwatchable so I don't think I will sit through it again even if it is on a cool DVD.

I'm actually re-watching the tape tonight and I don't hate the movie they way some do. In fact, I find it rather enjoyable. And I just bought the poster as well! Image

Now, City of the Walking Dead is unwatchable, IMO.

Well I guess what they say is true....one person's trash is another one's treasure. To be honest, both movies are pretty bad. But at least CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD didn't tempt me to hit the fast-forward button as much as NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES did. But then again I'm debating with someone (other than Mr. Bailes) who actually liked HEADLESS EYES LOL.

Ouch! I don't mind the Headless Eyes bit so much, but did you have to invoke Bailes' name in relation to me? Image

But I've got to ask, were you fast forwarding past, or to, the slow motion stock footage scenes? lol

Maybe Chuck was nodding off and accidentially hitting the FF button on his remote. Believe me, it happens too many times when I try to watch Night Of The Zombies.

On a plus note, the dialogue is so damned stupid that it usually wakes me up laughing at its' lunkheaded hilarity.

"That cute little ass of hers..." "I'm a tit man, myself."

"I prefer my girls a little more meaty. You take her!"

or the classic "I'm getting sick and tired of this VALLEY!!!"

Lt. Mike London is one of a kind. There were some nasty bits that caught my attention, but I'm gonna side with Chuck here...you want decent Italian splatter? Hook up with Nightmares In A Damaged Brain and avoid Mattei movies.

I saw Nightmares In A Damaged Brain when I was about 8 and would love to see it again. I just can't bring myself to buy a bootleg anymore though. I've almost bought the poster a couple of times, though.

Nightmare or Nightmare in a Damaged Brain is a personal fave of mine. I saw it when I was 13. Still can't shake the images of the little kid decapitating his mother and axing his fathe in the head. Ahhh, memories.

Yeah, but for the longest time I thought that scene was from Pieces!! Then I bought that crappy Diamond dvd and found out otherwise.

Also, bad news, I'm gonna have to return that Night of the Zombies tape. It turns out it belongs to someone else. Oh well, I'll get my four bucks back and put it toward the dvd, I guess. Or is there any chance Headless Eyes gets a dvd release? LOL Image

LOL that's a great idea Dylan. I'm sure HEADLESS EYES would make a killer DVD for sure. Maybe someone should talk to Anchor Bay or Image about that one. They could throw in such features as: remastered anamorphic widescreen, DTS 6.1 track, trailers, deleted scenes and retrospective documentary. The real icing would be an audio commentary with the director and some "boring fool" from Rue Morgue magazine. LOL that was a good one Keymont. It really made my day Image

It will be cool to replace the old bootleg of "Burial Ground"!

I watched "Nightmare" for the first time in years last night as a result of this post. The credited Tom Savini effects (Yeah I know it wasn't him) still look pretty damned cool!

"Night of the Zombies" is quality Zombie cheese although I will admit it does cause some nodding when watching late at night Image

Hey don't laugh, Darth, the way things are going with dvds these days, it really wouldn't surprise me that much if it did happen. I mean, every other movie in the world is getting the treatment, it seems. BTW, all kidding aside, if it did come out, I wouldn't buy it. Remember, I didn't necessarily love this movie, just didn't hate it like everyone else! It was crap, but tolerable crap, imo. LOL

Considering that your other favorite movie, I WAS A TEENAGE ZOMBIE, is out on DVD...the sky's the limit. If I'm correct, Charles Band still has the video rights. He'll put out anything for a buck (but why is the DVD of the incredible PIT AND THE PENDULUM remake out of print?? That gripes my ass in a major way). Something tells me that we haven't seen the last of good ol' Headless Eyes.

Dave, if you have no luck finding a copy of Nightmare anywhere else, I know a few shops in Atlanta that carry it. Video Update on Moreland definitely carries it. Just don't get stuck in there all day...they have a great selection of trashy movies from back in their Mom & Pop days. Back in the pre-DVD dark ages, I used to score tapes of primo trash like THREADS and DJANGO from their bins for just disgustingly low prices.

NOTE: Chris, if my reading materials are correct, Tom Savini was merely on board as a supervisor. The equally talented (and underrated) Ed French did the actual FX per se.

David, do you mean the Video Update that used to be in Little 5 Points or is there another one further south? Because if that's the one you mean, they went out of business a long time ago. They are now simply "Video Store" and is run by the good people who brought you Videodrome and the Paper Chase, the 2 finest stores in Atlanta, imho. I'm not sure if they'll still have that Nightmares tape (probably not) but I'll ask my friend who works there tomorrow.

Headless Eyes, I was a teenage zombie, reincarnation of isabel...man, I like some classy films, don't I? Image

Keymont - D'OH! That's the exact one I'm talking about. Credit it to the fact that I haven't been anywhere NEAR Little 5 Points in the past year...hopefully, they'll still have the movie. Has Videodrome picked up a copy of Bullet Ballet yet? If not, it's high time I ordered a DVD of the sucker.

The good news for us Nightmare fans is that, as Bruce H notified us a few months ago, the almighty Program Power will be putting out a DVD sometime in the near future as part of the Lucky 13 collection. I can't fucking wait...Nightmare is a classic.

Don't worry about bad taste in movies. I have a soft spot for real trash like Cruising, Pieces, and The Devonsville Terror.

I really don't know if Videodrome has upgraded their copy of Bullet Ballet yet. They've had the copy I gave them since last year though. It may not rent enough to be worth the investment for all I know. I haven't been there in a week or two, but I just heard they got in The Four of the Apocolypse among others so I may stop in over the weekend.

I must have missed or forgotten Bruce's post about Nightmares so I'm glad you reminded me. Good news, indeed. As far as my taste in movies, the ones in question aren't even movies I consider guilty pleasures or anything. I wouldn't watch them again and I certainly wouldn't recomment them to anyone, I just didn't hate them that much. I have very simple rules for movies-first and foremost, DON'T BORE ME! (like Driller Killer did, no pun intended Image) If it's a comedy, just make me laugh. All else is forgiven. See, I'm just easy to please!

My friend somehow got on their promo list, so I got Bloodsucking Pharoahs. This is one of the worst "packed" DVDs I've seen. The print appears to be taken directly from an old video, and all the X-rated Savini effects are only included as supplements, not re-inserted into the movie. To make things worse, there're two clocks on all of those scenes. WTF? Why bother if you aren't gonna do something useful? The director's interview was somewhat interesting, and it's funny that he hates the movie, but the producer's comments are all stupid and annoying.

The deleted scenes where taken from a vhs copy of the director's time-coded rough workprint, and as a fan of the film i'm glad to see them on the DVD. I'll agree it's not the greatest looking disc, but i've seen worse (i'm assuming this was mastered from the old video master, and the original film elements were not available for a new transfer. They're probably rotting somewhere in Paramount's vault, and we all know how they feel about genre films).
