fucking awesome movie. To quote Wesley Willis, "I love it like a milkshake". It's just one more reason why I love Japan's horror movies.

cool flick--I wish it were coming out over here in the States. I really hope Santa brings me a region free player for Christmas--I'm tired of missing out on all of this stuff.

I was hoping it was a region 0 release.(so more people can get it) Just as well. Region 3 discs retain more resolution on my free region player. It is being released in Canada and the States in alot of chinese or Japanese video stores. Not to mention Online.
Can you guys tell us a little more about the film? What's it about?

A scientist is trying to reanimate the dead. He does. But they won't play nice. There's some other unimportant subplots in there as well, but my point is that it's a good old fashioned gut munching zombie flick the way the good lord intended them. Ah, it's times like this that I'm really glad I've got 2, count'em 2, region free, Pal/Ntsc dvd players! Image (Just in case the APEX gets a little uncooperative!)

Robert: Junk goes something like this. A bunch of jewel thieves rob a store and then go to meet their fence at a decomissioned American military facility. The facility was home to some reanimation experiments that didn't go the way they'd planned and got shut down. When the thieves arrive, it awakens, zombies rise and mayhem ensues. Plays pretty much like you might expect a zombie shoot em up to play out. The ending is a little bit foolish but the movie on the whole is really good. I really liked it.

An American Military facility? Sounds like a tribute to Return of the Living Dead. I haven't seen a good zombie stomp in awhile,so Junk should fill the ticket. Thanks for the synopsis. I think the disc is NTSC 3, like Battle Royale. Which by the way, was very good. Great telecine, with almost no grain visible on the DVD. As for Region free DVD players,I'd only use one with a decent PAL/NTSC converter, built in. The PAL discs look kind of shitty otherwise.

I was pretty disappointed to know that the model of Apex player I got was the model released right AFTER they removed the loop hole menu. It's a bummer. I got it with the express purpose to watch all region movies. It still has the PAL/NTSC option but is missing the ability to turn off the region lock and the macrovision.

I still have a very good copy of Junk that I bought from Crimson Cult video, a god send for Japanese horror fans like me who don't have all region players. Their copy of Junk has no subs, but a good portion of the movie, the important plot elements are spoken in english (although a heavy Japanese accent makes interpretation a little interesting at times) and the rest of it is pretty simple, you can figure out what everyone is saying via voice tone and body language. I'm still a little fuzzy on what the whole car salesman angle was.

I can see how the new Apex model can spoil you're day, especially if you have that region 2 Disc, you really want to see. I've done some pretty extensive research before I bought a region free player. The best is without a doubt the Malata N996. The very best region conversion. Flawless. I bought it on account of that, and it's many features. It's about $300.00-$330.00 U.S.

The second best is the Shinco 860. It also has great conversion. But lacks the x,y scaling ability that the Malata has. Necessary for some anamorphic PAL discs. Unless you prefer viewing them slightly cropped. The Shinco is about $240.00 U.S.

The WORST hands down was the Sampo.(Afreey)I had it for 8 days. And almost threw it out the window. Video noise,Audio dropouts and a lockup on one PAL disc, plagued this player. It's inexpensive I know. But cheap in more ways than one. I took it back and the dealer knew why, before I even said anything. For an inexpensive player, try the Shinco. I've never tried the Apex, but haven't heard much that's positive.

aside from the Region 1 code, I don't have too many complaints with my Apex. I got it on account of all the extra shit it can do. When most expensive, name brand players were confined to just playing DVD this one plays VCD, CD-Rs burned with MP3s, a lot of attractive stuff. The picture quality it brings isn't that bad considering that it's an econo player. I think the price tag was $100. No matter what the disc, there's always some artifacting in the blacks. I have yet to come across a disc that won't play in it, though I've heard it has more discs than others that won't play.

I heartily second the Malata recommendation. It's a godsend. Plays any damn thing from any damn where, and does it flawlessly. I'm stoked about Junk. Good movies about the undead are what make life worth living.

I just read a ton of info on the Malata N996 player online and it does seem to be an excellent machine. I hated the Sampo player and sold it on ebay for the amount I paid for. Is this Malata player REALLY that good? It's more money than the Sampo but if it's a better machine then it will be worth it I'm sure.

I've had it, for over a month, and have had no problems with it. I've played region 1-3 discs,Cd-R/mp3s,and a couple Vcds and it played them all perfectly. It does seem to be incompatible with certain Denon recievers, however. But ONLY if they're hooked up with Optical cable. It causes audio dropouts on SOME DTS DVDs.ONLY with the Denon reciever.
