Suicide Club

No sir, I didn't like it...
I thought it started off great, then it just fell apart imo. It wasn't like watching Kairo where sure it doesn't make sense but the creepy images made it more like a nightmare if anything. Suicide Club made me feel as if I was watching two different movies and I had no clue what was going on too boot. The character of Genesis and that whole deal was not only not needed but came from out of nowhere. Anyhoo, maybe it's just me, maybe I just didn't get it... but I didn't like it.

Got Versus lined up for tonight, so hopefully this one will be better :)

I love Suicide Club!

No, it doesn't make much sense, but I still find it affective for some reason. Even though the movie doesnt seem to flow plotwise, there's still a central theme and message coming across, and Genesis was just in the movie so he could sing that AWESOME song. for some reason I really like this movie. Probably my personal fav of all the new Japanese movies..

I thought VERSUS sucked though. THAT movie doesn't make any sense... and it has no feel or anything interesting or different to make up for it. It just got boring after a while... I didn't even finish it..

Versus would have made a good short film, but an hour and a half of no plot and a lot of ass kicking wears thin after a little while.

Suicide Club is still one I'm trying to track down. I have a list of asian movies a mile long that I'll probably never get my hands on, but I'm going to keep trying.

VERSUS was TWO hours of no plot and ass kicking...

= BORING.

Why is everyone so crazy about that movie?

I found both movies at my local blockbuster. R-rated versions though... I bought unrated Suicide Club soon after.

I loved the idea for Suicide Club... however when throwing random things in it like Genesis and his musical number... when it's got like zero to do with the movie and it's soooooooo way different then the actual movie... I dunno it just really ruined it for me. Don't get me wrong I laughed my ass off when it happened... just didn't like this movie.

Versus... while I thought it was a tad too long... it ROCKED!!! :p

Both films I rented via Netflix...

Wasn't Suicide Club directed by a guy who usually directs gay pornos?

So I finally got around to seeing a boot of Suicide Club last night. It was a long time coming and everyone I know who mentioned it couldn't go thirty seconds without mentioning the bg train station suicide at the beginning. While I thought that scene was pretty freakin' awesome and the scene where all the kids jump off the school was also really cool, I thought the rest of it sucked balls and I couldn't even tell you what it was about.

The idea was pretty good, if you ask me. It makes a pretty interesting point about Japan's infatuation with fads but it becomes far too artsy for it's own good. I think the avant Japanese genre stuff should stick to being wacked and fucked up ala Pinochio 964 and Tetsuo and the plot driven stuff should try and stay on course and be coherent. There's just no need to go veering off into existentialism right after you hose down a Shinjuku train station with blood.

The Dessert songs were catchy, though. God help me.

I think the message of Suicide Circle shouldn't have been handed out too blatanly in the end. But the stuff you had to figure out on your own was clever, like what Genesis represented and the metaphor abou suicide. I still don't understand the skin rolls though. I enjoyed the movie, but its failure is how it juggles stories in a messy fashion, it drifted to different characters that you'd end up getting lost sometimes.

And Versus would have been a good film if the last fight wasn't a huge let down. I was pissed off that it wasn't as bloody as all the previous matches, I expected something big at the end but it just didn't happen.

I so much agree. This film sucked and I only kept watching it because of the great start off. A complete waste..

Still have to see VERSUS..

Question regarding BOOTLEGS

I recently bought a DVD off AMAZON MARKETPLACE from some guy who claims he sold me a legit copy of NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE. When I recieved it, it was clearly NOT from what I could see a legit release. The disc appeared to be stamped from one of those cheesy DVD gizmos and when looking carefully you could see a slight little hole between the stamp and where the disc reaches it's end. The "stamp" was printed from managed to create a Paramont logo and DTS on the inside (another words it was carefully removed from the ink). The packaging was nothing like the American release, it was basically the cover art when the film was released and the guy didn't even bother including it in a case, it was just a hokey looking slip cover in a cheesy plastic wrapper. He did manage to use a laser to signature the films name on the back of the disc but there were no code numbers that followed and the glue from the front was clearly apparent. He claims he bought the discs in bulk from a "legit website" and sent them out without the cases to save on shipping in an "expensivie envelope".

I contacted Amazon and got a partial refund (minus shipping), my question is, I've never seen discs sold on the web unless their something in our genre. Does anyone know of any so I can investigate this? He also claims that HE issued the refund but Amazon contacted me with an e-mail and a 5.00 coupon.

Thanks, appreciate any input. The dick wants me to remove my feedback but I really don't think this film is an import and don't want to see other people getting ripped off. Living in New York, you see a lot of this shit. I was surprised that Amazon actually had a seller like this, I'm a seller and have also bought from many others as well, this is the first time I ever had a problem.

Thanks Again,

Watched it last night and must admit, despite it's flaws, I did enjoy it quite a bit. The whole bit with Genesis was out of place and was a little too "Clockwork Orange meets Rocky Horror" for my tastes. But even though it turned out to not be as cohesive as you'd like, I'd rather still watch a movie that keeps my interest only to let me down at the end rather than something like Versus, which bored me to tears entirely.

While I thought the director's cut of Versus was just a tad too long I enjoyed it way more then Suicide Club... which I found to be totally disappointing... great opening but it all went downhill from there...

This movie was too messed up for my tastes. The Genesis rape / murder music video was just disturbing. I could have done without seeing this one. Fuck off to all of you who recommended this to me! I am not listening to your recommendations any longer. :)
