I always got a kick out of the baseball player gang "The Furys". When they show the gangs at the beginning of the film, who in the hell are those guys that look like a gang of mimes???

They don't scare me :-P

Yes,very cool movie!

Oh yeah, this is a personal favourite of mine, although my choice for best Walter Hill film would be SOUTHERN COMFORT.

There's a great comic book feel to the THE WARRIORS and the opening sequence really sets the film up nicely. The gang dressed as mimes always gets a reaction whenever I show this movie to friends. It is pretty hard to imagine them intimidating anyone.
Has anyone else read Sol Yurick's novel on which the film was based? It's actually quite different from the film. The basic premise is the same and there's a couple of incidents common to both, but unlike the film, the novel is really contemptuous towards the gang members and finds nothing heroic about them.

I'd really love to see Walter Hill make a comeback, his last good film for me was EXTREME PREJUDICE made way back in 1987, and his earlier films played a major part in the development of my interest in movies.

Just a few quick Walter Hill jots...

One of the Baseball Furies in THE WARRIORS is none other than the late, great Steve James.

Grab that SOUTHERN COMFORT DVD--it's a beaut.

I personally think that Hill's last truly great film was JOHNNY HANDSOME.

I don't think I've ever been quite so crushed as I was by SUPERNOVA.

Hill has another crack at it with UNDISPUTED, though--seen THAT trailer yet?

So, when is Hollywood gonna ruin THIS one with a remake? Come on, Kirstin Dunst in the chick gang, Adam Sandler as the Gang leader that gets shot, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon as the Warriors... maybe they could get Emmanuel Lewis to say "Warriors...come out and playee ayyyyyy..."

Didn't I hear somewhere that they were already considering remaking this?

Pretty stupid idea. How could a contemporary gang run from one side of town to the other with their pants at half mast? Doesn't make sense.

Anyway, top movie.
