Worst horror movie ever?

Post by I am 138 »

I just watched Night Ripper, and man am I sorry I did. It got me thinkin' though...what's the absolute WORST. NOt counting most Shot on Video stuff, 'cause that's got a whole different level of bad. I'd have to go with Model Killer aka The Hollywood Strangler meets the Skidrow Slasher. That's even worse than all the SOV stuff I've seen. A close number two would be Night of Horror.

Thanks for pointing out that there's an entire realm of shot-on-video shit, that's at the bottom of the toilet. So often,I see people mention WORST MOVIES,and never-ever nominate the SOV dreck-(like anything Todd Sheets directed).

THE FEAR-1994 I absolutely hated this fucking film. A group of students-(including a dorky white kid with dreadlocks)-go to a isolated cabin,in the woods. Once there, they attempt to conduct some sort of half-baked experiment with "fear",only to be interrupted by Morty The Scary Wooden Dummy. I can't believe some asshole put up the money for a sequel!

THEY-198? Extemely boring, dull, unexciting alien invasion flick, that consists of 90 minutes of bad dialogue, filmed at a small Michigan airport....very bad, hard to sit through...I can't even find the film credits for this,at the IMDB.

The Fear('94)-It gets no worse than this. I'm still contemplating seeing the sequel...on one hand, it can't be worse than the original, but on the other hand...what if it is?

What is the deal with those SOV crap fests anyway? There seems to be a whole "scene" for that kind of stuff. JR bookwalter, Todd Sheets, etc. Who watches that crap and who supports it? I always pass that crap up and never even give any of it a chance. Should I? Are there ANY shot on video films worth checking out? I did like Redneck Zombies though...

This is a difficult one as there are a lot of bad movies out there. I'm gonna give my worst to a 1971 Spanish flick called "Graveyard of Horror" (aka Necrophagus) which is one of the most boring flicks I have ever seen. Lamberto Bava's "Graveyard Disturbance" also ranks up there pretty high.

I have to admit that there are some bad horror movies that I still find entertaining enough to be watchable in a "so bad it's good" way. But the following movies were just plain awful:

EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD - A lot of people seem to like this film and think it is one of Joe D'Amato's best. Sorry to say it but this one totally sucked. Boring and uneven all the way through. See PORNO HOLOCAUST or MONSTER HUNTER instead.

HEADLESS EYES - An absolute stinkfest from beginning to end. About an artist who kills people and uses their eyes for sculptures. Not as interesting, gory or exciting as it sounds. The only good thing about this one is the nice-looking box (which includes pictures on the back not even from the movie!).

ZOMBIE LAKE - Zzz..Zzz..Zzzzz. A total yawner. Enough said.

SKINNER - Any movie that features Traci Lords and stars Ted Raimi as a psycho has to be good, right? Wrong! Don't even think about this one.

That's all I can think of for now.

I have a hard time believing "genre fans" actually support stuff like the SOV shit over at Alternativecinema.com. I mean how many "can't get laid losers" are there out there for bad shot on video Lesbian Vampire flicks? Just rent a porno for fuck's sake.

Chuck, anything with Traci Lords in it besides porn sucks, that nasty little slut.

Worst evers, I could go on forever but Jack Frost comes to mind, anyone see this one about the killer snowman, it has bad written all over it, worth a laugh.

Terry: want to know more about THEY? Try looking it up under the real title: INVASION FROM INNER EARTH! Yep, this is Rebane territory! GIANT SPIDER INVASION, ALPHA INCIDENT, RANA, BLOOD HARVEST, you get the idea? One of the most deadly, incomprehensible "sci-fi" films ever made, and one that had a profound effect on my life.

Hmmm... much as I like Paul Naschy and Spanish horror, try your hand at CRIMSON or REVENGE IN THE HOUSE OF USHER sometime...

Shatter Dead is probably the best of the lot, and really not too bad. The Ripper also has a few choice moments...other than that, no.

Chris, Graveyard... is pretty bad. Have you seen the one video release where the cover looks like the art project of a middle schooler? Some zombie crawling out of a grave with some sort of weapon (I think) in its hand. Pretty funny.

Never saw The Fear...maybe I should.

Haha! That's the same exact thing I always said. What's the point of those "movies"? I had a copy of that Alternative Cinema mag a few years ago and it was the worst ever. It was just a huge ad for all their crappy films they try to sell to poor saps who don't know any better. Doesn't Draculina also sell tons of that shit, and what's that company W.A.V.E.? I guess it's cool they're doing what they want and all, but I just want to know who the hell buys that stuff, and ever notice how expensive those videos are they sell? 30 bucks for a lame, shot on video, pile of crap with not even one cool minute worth watching?

My entry to this thread has to be A Virgin Among the Living Dead. I always seem to stand alone on this but I thought it was downright miserable. The acting is flat, there's no atmosphere, they show that stupid zombie scene over and over and over and what's more, ALL the sex is censored by blacking out 98% of the screen (I realize that not all the versions are like this).

Wasn't Lief Jonker's Darkness SOV? I'd say that one was good enough to not be lumped in with all the other crap...like Zombie Toxin, a movie I've not been able to watch more than the first 4 minutes of.

Dylan - DARKNESS was actually shot on Super-8mm film (the choice of champs!). The reason it has such an odd video look was Jonker's transferring it to videotape by means of projecting the Super-8 film on white cardboard and videotaping it. Not exactly the most professional way to do it, but hey...what can you do for $3,000?

I'm in agreeance with everyone here. I absolutely HATE about 98% of the SOV crap that pollutes the genre these days, and these are the people that make horror fans look really fuckin' lame. Anybody who supports this shit is most likely mentally retarded, wears a smorgasbord of death metal shirts, and probably has a good-sized porno collection. For every Jim Van Bebber, there's about 5 JR Bookwalters and 20 Nick Palumbos. I've had enough of their cheapjack rehashes of material that Craven, Romero, and Hooper perfected DECADES ago. However, I agree with 138...Shatter Dead is a really great movie, but Scooter's a really talented fella and he'd be doing good stuff in any format.

Well, even though I can't think of a horror film that was bad enough to make me dry retch, one actual film that does make me is Chicken Park. If you ever see this film on a shelf, take to it with a sledgehammer. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING about this film is BAD, and in the most unpleasant way.

Actually, Black Devil Doll from hell was pretty boring, too.

Thanks Remo...now I have clearer picture as to who I should direct my anger at,for wasting 90 minutes of my life on "They" aka Invasion From Inner Earth.

Yep,CRIMSON and REVENGE OF THE HOUSE OF USHER are pathetic Euro-horrors,and I don't care if Crimson has a hardcore version or not,it still sucks!-(sorry BruceH.)

Finally saw JEPPERS CREEPERS....cool monster,I'd watch it again :-)

Ive got you all beat...two words...BLOODY MURDER a FT13 knock-off. All the women but one were ugly (investors daughters? I think so.) The killer's name was Jason Moorhouse, wore a hockey mask, and weilded a chainsaw. Ooooh soooo original. There was NO gore either, a gore film with NO gore! The ONE FX shot had a guy with an arrow through him and its coming through his shirt, requiring NO make-up at all. Its not even unintentionally funny, it just sucks! How many Texas dentists do you think invested/lost money on this one? And btw, I didnt rent it. My friends wife's sister did (she is 18 and stooooopid...)
They got all bent as I sat around and picked the fucking peice of crap apart too...

Last I remember “The Fear” was on my worst list as well, but I still think the worst film of all time is “The Mummy Returns”.

A couple horror films I've watched recently that were wretched turds though were “Terror At Tenkiller” and “Clownhouse” – the latter directed by child molester Victor Salva. Wow both these films left me with the taste of shit in my mouth. Seems that lately I've been watching nothing but crap. I gotta get back in the game.

Anyone else notice any odd pedophile stuff in Clownhouse? The brothers marching around in their tighty-whities, one of them taking a bath for no reason after arriving home from the circus, as well as some dialog amongst the brothers along the lines of “I’m going out to the store don’t you guys go feeling each other up now.”

Fucked up shit anyway….

I saw Clownhouse years ago, w/o knowing that about the director, but did note the idea of a trusted icon, the clown, being turned into something terrifying. Don't know if that's necessarily a pedophile link, but the children did seemed preyed on.

Good god, I rented this movie once called Demon Possessed where this group of people were stranded in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a snowstorm after they had gotten lost skiing, and they awoke demon spirits from playing some OUIJA game for like 10 seconds with a goddamn pentagram in the middle.

At less than 90 minutes, it was TOO long, completely flat. Everything was bad - the dialogue, acting.. there were TOO many kills with NO gore, and there was sex with NO nudity.

Absolutely nothing good about this movie whatsoever. I was almost crying by the end.
Let's ask him, what's the deal?

Most SOV and Indy efforts get on my nerves, though there's a few I really get into. All it takes is talent, which is unfortunately lacking on the indy scene.

So far I'm gonna have to echo 138's vote of NIGHT OF HORROR. Bunch of rednecks wander through the woods of MD. That's it. Nothing happens. They get scared, and find a skull. The end. Horrible acting, no real story, the darkest photography you'll ever see... Skip it.

For the record, Darth Tanner, I consider EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD and HEADLESS EYES among my all-time favs, and I voted ZOMBIE LAKE as Best DVD of the Year 2001. I also dig CRIMSON and am looking forward to the disc.

To me SHATTER DEAD is highly overrated, with horrible performances, make-up, and uninspired direction. The story and ideas are strong, it's a shame the execution is so shoddy.

DARKNESS was indeed shot on glorious Super8, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a Super Special Edition Remastered Director's Cut DVD!

I actually have Night Of Horror on video but have never warched it. By your description Bruce, it sounds basically like the Blair Witch Project..ie, boring as all hell.

I, too, thought Headless Eyes wasn't too bad, and have a certain fondness for Zombie Lake (although I do admit it sucks), but we've covered that ground before and I don't feel like absorbing any more punishment at the hands of the tag team of Tanner and Austin over it! :)
