AEon Flux

Saw it yesterday. It was better than I thought it was going to be.

The futuristic action stuff is pretty cool, and I really think Charlize is H.O.T. with black hair.

I really liked all the sets, they look like they were fun to think up, since it's set in like 2400 or something like that.

I hadn't seen much of the cartoon, so I didn't know the story, but I didn't really need to know, as the movie was very self-contained.

*Spoiler?

There is a bit of a background story between her and a guy, and it wasn't too cheezy like most movies with a chick in them, which I was happy about. But I wish they would have gone even deeper with it. You kinda wonder what was "there" even after they attempt to explain it.

The cartoon is wierd violent and awesome. I wonder if they can pull it off with a pg13. I am sick of all the pg13.

I'll be checking it out this afternoon, but Ain't It Cool News and some people on IMBD said that it should have been R, due to the drug themes, and a few other things that the MPAA may not have gotten. Hopefully that's the case.

That's kind of what I was thinking. That combined with the touchy combination of a former cartoon, MTV original, and wondering if this was just something to prove that Charlize is still hot.

Did MTV actually make this movie?

Everything I could find on google says that this movie was based off the Mtv series (that's the wording all of them used), so I don't think they had much to do with it. Also just read some reviews and lordy!! there's not many people out there who like this movie. I think I'll wait for the rental as well! :) I'm sure it'll be pretty though...

I wish that I could see Liquid TV on DVD. This was the series on MTV which hosted the Aeon Flux cartoon when it was released originally. There was a lot of very cool animated shorts on that show.

If it's BASED on it than that could be OK. I can't remember a time when MTV put out a full length that was of any quality.

You can get all the shorts from Liquid TV but not the show as a whole. I have found them at various stores over the years and usually in the bargain bin!

edit: found that it is a co-production of Paramount and MTV.

Yarg...

Didn't really follow any of the cartoon plots, but it took elements of them for sure. They did a good job of making Aeon very acrobatic, able to dodge bullets, great with weapons, etc. They lacked on the blood, the overt sexuality, and the general weirdness that the cartoon was loaded with.

All in all, a decent sci-fi flick that was clearly more inspired by than based on the original.

Plus there is some good Charlize side boob action in one scene.

Mmmmm... side boob.

I was very pleased with this movie. I had low expectations going in and it left me surpised at how OK it was.

Angelica,

MTV has released some decent stuff.

Joe's Apartment. The movie is decent, I have probably seen it twice, 1st when it was new to video, again on cable or something. i could watch it again.

Beavis and Butthead Do America. An amazing movie. I saw it opening day around 11pm or so. I have never witnessed a movie theatre experience like this one. It was almost on level with a concert. The thatre was packed. People were noisy the whole way through, During the opening dream sequence there were cheers when Butthead appeared, The cheers were about twice as loud for Beavis.

The only movie theatre experiences that were close to this were Demon Knight (Not really noisy, but the audience was "into" it) and The Blair Witch Project (It's Maryland...)

Election is a decent movie.

Never saw Varsity Blues.

I'm not sure about an Aeon Flux movie. I would much rather the new movie be all animation. I would go to the theatre to see a 90min or so animated Aeon Flux movie.

When the current movie is available on DVD I'll probably watch it. Not expecting much.

Saw this after practice last night. It was intertaining, but worth $18 for tickets, $3 for a soda and $3.50 for Junior Mints???? No. Maybe worth a $4 rental and a grocery store purchase of $2 popcorn and $2.50 of hot cocoa.

Did they do Election?? That was pretty good.

Yes, wait for the rental. It was OK. That's about it. It seemed old and like something I would have watched on Showtime when I was a kid. It was missing the edge of the cartoon and they tried to cram too much into the movie. I highly doubt the movie would have been made if any less star power had agreed to do it. Guess Charlize needed some Christmas money.
