hacking the xbox

so i think i've finally came to the piont of getting the xbox. a few of my friends have one and they got theres hacked. they never buy games, just rent and copy on to the xbox. they also have all the classic nes, super nes, sega, etc. games.

i heard something about needing to have an old x box to do this. does anyone know if this is true. does anyone else have theres hacked?
