I mentioned this in the Guitar Hero 2 thread, but it's official news now. The new Harmonix game was officially announced this morning at 8 and it has the entire internet gaming community on fire.
The premise takes the existing Guitar Hero formula and expands it to an all new level. The game will come packed in with a guitar, bass, drum kit and mic and will, presumably, play like Guitar Hero only now it allows you to play out as a full band. Details are still scant, but the official word is that they're using the money and momentum from the Guitar Hero license to finance a game of all master tracks. No covers this time. From the looks of what is on the site, Harmonix is looking to take this to entirely new heights with implemented "clan" play. Expect organized battle of the bands, a spectator system for people to jump in and watch your band play. Finally, it's looking like there will be a fully supported system to create custom tracks and take them online for others to hear.
THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!
Proposed platforms at this time are PS3 and 360 and they're aiming at a December release date. The new site is live and is having the shit slammed out of it due to maximum interest. Developers have blogs, so get in now and start following the development of what is definitely going to be the game of the year.
This forum is for discussion of console and PC games.

Gonna be expensive. Dunno how they will manage online play, what with lag and stuff. Interesting stuff.
