Fido?

Post by DylanDog »

Anyone seen this zombie comedy yet? It's playing about an hour from me and I was thinking of making the drive out this week. Looks like it might be fun.

Ok, waited until the last night and finally made my way out there on Thursday. It was lots of fun, much more comedy than horror ( I probably should have put this in the Beaten Track, but somehow it just feels more at home here. Feel free to move it if you like, Chris.). The writing was tight and the cast superb. As you could probably tell from the trailer, it was basically a mix of "Lassie" and "Leave it to Beaver" with zombies.

After the "Zombie Wars", small towns are rebuilt and surrounded by large fences to keep the zombies out. Outside the fences is called the "Wild Zone", and criminals are sent there instead of prison. With the prisons now empty, they are used to house the elderly since it's common belief that they can't be trusted, due to the potential for them to drop dead and come back as a zombie at any moment (there's a nice gag about this, spoofing an old commercial.)

But a scientist has created a collar that eliminates a zombies desire for human flesh (how it works is never explained, but who the hell cares?) making these flesh eating ghouls more like their classic ancestors...ie, just mindless labor. Zombie paperboys, zombie milkmen, zombie butlers, etc... And the more zombies you have, the higher your social status. One lonely boy becomes such good friends with his zombie, that even after the collar comes off, he will not eat him. Sort of like Dr. Logan and Bub.

If this is playing near you, I'd definitely recommend you check it out. It's a pretty good time and certainly one of the more unique zombie entries from the last few years.
