Punisher: War Zone

Post by Remo D »

Holy. Flaming. Cow.

Yeah, I posted this in Horrornews, not The Beaten Path. Not a mistake.

You want the gorefest of 2008? GO.

You want the Punisher movie that negates the first two attempts? GO.

You want a Lionsgate release featuring yet another villain known as Jigsaw? Hey--the Punisher Jigsaw predates the SAW Jigsaw even if his origin is somewhat reinterpreted here--and regardless, this is better than SAW 5 any day. GO.

You want conflicted heroes and fascinatingly watchable, over the top villains? GO.

And HURRY. It's also one of the biggest FLOPS of 2008. I, too, was guilty of skipping this on opening weekend--considering the OTHER two Punisher films, I figured this one could wait. And then someone had to go and tell me what this one was REALLY like.

Suffice it to say that Marvel never went this far on the printed page... and that their special "Marvel Knights" studio imprint must have been reserved for their R-rated films.

Oh, and this would never have gotten an "R" in the 1980s. Rank hath its privileges today, I guess.

GO.

I went to see it yesterday and enjoyed it, however I think you're review got me too excited for it. I didn't think it was the gorefest of 2008 (I still think Rambo holds that distinction). I didn't mind the over the top villains that much, but the over the top accents were a bit annoying.

However, seeing that guy get blown away while doing a flip in mid-air was worth the price of admission!

Yeah, I'll admit RAMBO was gorier, but I still had "hope" when I saw that back in February... PUNISHER came along after the majority of 2008 had bone-dried virtually all of the enthusiasm out of my weary soul...

I finally got around to seeing this and enjoyed it quite a bit. Quite a strong "R" all right. Good times and pretty darn entertaining kills.
