Like I mentioned on the Facebook post, I had the opportunity to chat with her for quite a while at the Hot Rocks awards show. Up until that point, I had no idea she was sick, either. She gave me the lowdown on her condition, and apparently she was feeling pretty good on that particular evening. I nearly shed a tear when she was telling me about this, but I choked it all back. Geri was a sweetheart, and will be dearly missed. Her contribution to our little corner of Seattle's music culture is undeniable.

Cheers, love

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear this. Although I haven't seen her in a couple of years now, I was aware that she had been dealing with this for quite a while. She kept it very quiet.

She had a smile & a hug for just about anyone who came her way. RIP Geri.....you will be missed.

I got in on the tail end of the whole SMO thing. I've met so many cool people because of SMO. I'm thankful for so many friendships that I have now, and, though I never met her, I'm definitely thankful for what she did.

Holy Hell! I had no idea. I used to run into her at my qfc by my house all the time and she was always so nice and sweet. Total bummer, what a loss of a great soul!

Geri always seemed sincere and non-judgmental toward people and was one of the few unselfish people in the "scene".

Geri was a great lady, always ready with a smile and a hug. This is very sad, but you can't kill a memory, and I have many great ones.

I loved Geri and I'm really upset that she's gone. I also didn't even know she was sick.

RIP :(

Very sad! She had such a good heart and a love for the local scene! The last time I talked to her was at the Hot Rocks music awards and she told me all that she was going through and she told me she did not have long to live. I did all I could to hold back the tears. It was very sad! She will be missed. I have a lot of great memories with her!

She used to be one of the people I could always look forward to seeing at shows. She was always kind and supportive of everyone and everything in SMO.

I haven't seen her in such a long time either. Wish I knew about her condition sooner. Then again, while she was very friendly and engaging, she never was one to draw attention to herself. Its no surprise this only came out after she died.

You were one of the people that brought the rest of us together. Thank you Geri.

Fuck me, I hadn't seen her in years, but was wondering about her just the other day. Don't get to this board much either, obviously. Dedicated, driven individual, and definitely the most un-selfish person I've ever met. RIP

I just heard last night. I have so much to say but it would never be enough.

I miss you my lady. I wrote a lot and lost it. I can't do it again right now.

I know you are somewhere sacred and beautiful.

I've tried to post several times but I just lose it. Those who knew Geri know the depth of the sadness of what I'm feeling today.

For those who don't remember her you may have had your picture taken by her or she may have filmed or written about your band. She certainly supported you music among other things like books, beading, sewing, asian and glass art...there was so much to her that many never even got to see.

Many may know her in a way related to the following articles:

Geri Nahrgang - Hot Rocks Assistant Floor Director, grew up in Seattle listening to the local bands. By the 70’s, she was learning sound engineering (analog, now quite outdated), and decided that she simply wanted to be involved in the music business in any way possible. Photography appeared to be her best bet and she started taking publicity pictures for friends and live performance photos in black and white. She kept on taking literally thousands of photos of most of the bands that appeared at the OK Hotel, Pain in the Grass, The Crocodile, the old Fenix, the Colorbox, and the Central in the 90’s. In 2000-2001, an organization was formed called Seattle Metal in which she soon became involved. She researched, wrote, edited and published the newsletter and also produced/coordinated, and booked a successful festival of 13 bands and about 25 volunteers for Seattle Metal. At the same time, she met several people who wanted to videotape bands for local access TV and for the bands’ use as well. After working with two of them, she landed with Hot Rocks. Contact Geri at geri@streamshot.com.

There is a casual and non memorial style gathering being planned. As I hear more I'll post it.

Per Geri's wishes there will be no official service.

A private close friend and family spreading of the ashes may be done but not as a memorial service.

In honor of Geri and as a way of gathering together there will be a special one time only SMO Meeting and special edition of SMO Magazine.

More information will be provided as it comes together.

She was very dedicated to music and for that she will always have my respect.

One more metal angel has been added to the lineup.

Now Kurt has some company up there in the big metal heaven.

Well if those two hooked up, the place is sure to soon run out of Hefeweizen...
