single lens reflex acid reflux
I wanted to post these here first, at home on the forum, but my photobucket has been all wanky lately and won't let me upload anything. (Anyone else having this problem???) You've probally seen these but I've been having a blast breaking in my new camera, so what the hell. I nabbed another image hosting site and voila! Brand spankin' new abominations courtesy of my new Canon union.

If I'm in a hurry, I usually go to Kenmore Camera (in Kenmore). They have a pretty good inventory and most of the people there actually have a clue.
I mostly buy lights, stands, reflectors, umbrellas, etc off of eBay

I exclusively shop online for lenses simply because no local retailers can come close to matching the prices. I will only use online retailers with a brick and mortar presence though as there are way too many fly by night shady online only camera stores.
I do, however, also like to handle lenses before I drop some serious coin on them. I accomplish this by renting them. I use Glazer's Cameras in Seattle, not sure if there are any rental places in B'ham. I find renting to be the best way to decide on whether or not to buy a lens due to the fact that I can actually use then lenses in the way I would be using them if I were to own them

Renting lenses is a pretty foreign concept to me and I have a good idea what I'm looking for, I'm just a bit old school (or totally anal) that I like to inspect before I buy. Especially with higher priced items. I have been very pleased with the weight of the dslr lenses though. They're so much lighter than my manual ones! Damn, if that isn't a bonus!
Glazers. Yeah, I forgot about them. I keep ripping out their ads in the Sunday paper when I come across them. Fuck. I wish I had remembered when I was just downtown shopping...
Thanks for the tips. A good wide angle is the very first on my already growing shopping list.

I don't know shit about lenses, but that sounds like the best reason to rent first before you buy!Evil Red wrote:Renting lenses is a pretty foreign concept to me and I have a good idea what I'm looking for, I'm just a bit old school (or totally anal) that I like to inspect before I buy. Also, great pictures, but i would definitely get that blue skin thing looked at by a doctor. Like asap.

The "L" lenses weigh a ton, probably as much if not more than the manual lenses you are used to. My 100-400L weighs more than my body, battery grip and flash head combinedEvil Red wrote:I have been very pleased with the weight of the dslr lenses though. The EF-S 17-55 f2.8 is a sweet wider lens and is pretty nice in low light. Unfortunately it's like $1000. I rented one of those nad if I get some extra $$$ I'll go for that, it's a great concert shooter from my rental experience

That'd be fun, but it's a bit out of my range right now. Besides, for the wide angle, my favorite use for them is actually it's distortion purposes rather than anything else, so I can get away with something cheaper pretty easily.Chris Slack wrote:

Oh yeah I remember back when the Hulk movie first came out, she used to wear those big dumb "Hulk Hands" to every show. It was like "ok we get it, you are really into the hulk movie" and she would smash them together and they would say "arrrrrrr hulk smash!" It was completely inappropriate.IRONDICK wrote:Ah she's just going through a Avatar phase...she'll get over it.
I guess she did grow out of that, so....

Rad, thanks! I was starting to wonder if I was the only one here that thought it was funny. I cracked myself up for days getting ready to shoot and submit it. I want to win, but if nothing else, I was and am damn entertained over it!Chris Slack wrote:That is very cool!
I also just tonight submitted Hollow to a photo contest at my favorite local dark room supply / camera store. I love these guys. I took my dark room classes from them years ago and I've always had a lot of respect for them and their buisness. On the plus side I know they have genuinely liked some of my pictures in the past, so I'm pleased to enter their contest. Hopefully, they'll like this one too. A lot.

I don't have any idea yet if I made the paper or not, but at least I have a bunch of votes. (I'll find out when I go to work in a few.)

Turns out sex is messy. After good sex? Whew... all sorts of sticky funk goin' on. Girly fluids and cherry flavored love lube and spermicide and semen and saliva all over everything. It's like a rape kit exploded or something equally insane. Reeks like sweat and latex and lust. Damn, gettin' kinda turned on here.
