Best albums of 2010

Post by Chris Slack »

Watain – Lawless Darkness – Though this is (as usual) highly derivative of Dissection and DMDS era Mayhem this is a fantastic album. Lots of memorable riffs and lyrics/vocal passages throughout.

Weapon – The Devil’s Tomb – Killer 2nd full length from the Edmonton based black/death/metal band. There are some KILLER melodies and solos on this.

Burzum – Belus - New Burzum. Awesome.

Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini – The best album from the Norwegian progressive/psychedelic/black/viking metallers since “Beneath the Lights.”

Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones – Takes up where the last Celtic frost left off. Fantastic.

Rage – Strings to a Web – Another solid release from the German power/symphonic metal veterans.

Sigh – Scenes from Hell – While not quite as enjoyable as “Hangman’s Hymn” this is still a killer album.

Deathspell Omega – Paracletus – Latest album is like Gorguts gone black metal.

Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm – The ancient cult is back with another killer slab of unholy grimness.

Darkthrone – Circle the Wagons – More heavy metal sounding than the previous crustier releases. Darkthrone can do no wrong.

The rest of my best of 2010 (shows, movies and games) can be found here along with at least one other persons picks.
