Hitcher In The Dark

Post by Jon »

This film by good old Umberto Lenzi is just one of many titles of interest scheduled to hit DVD this year. I haven't read much about it over the years but it sounds like quite a sleazy rip-off of THE HITCHER. Anyone seen it and recommend I put away some of my hard-earned for it?

wow, 138, a vicious attack... but it sounds pretty awful anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, Lenzi really only has a couple of decent flicks worth checking out but on the whole he's a total hack who can't seem to do anything original.

Nightmare City was good fun.

Um...OK, so it ain't such a hot movie. Many thanks. I'm not a Lenzi completist by any means and I've already got my eye on a long list of other stuff due this year anyway. I think Lenzi's got something like 60 films under his belt and word of mouth would indicate he's done more than his fair share of stinkers. For the record, my faves would probably be NIGHTMARE CITY and CANNIBAL FEROX, but there's still many of his that I haven't seen. Just for arguments sake, does anyone want to recommend any of his other films?

I think Iron Master, From Hell To Victory and Eaten Alive are all worth seeing. I also liked Paranoia, although I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable actually recommending it. I think all these ones are better than Nightmare City.....I've just never liked that movie very much.

Nightmare City is aka City of the Walking Dead, no?

If so, I also really disliked that one. The makeup was just awful. Then again, I'm also a zombie movie purist.

Never seen Ironmaster. I've passed it a million times in the video stores and looked at it but never bothered to rent it.

NIGHTMARE CITY = good times. Its great and has a semblance of momentum sorely lacking from other goofy Italian zombie films. And how can I be anything but grateful to the man who brought us CANNIBAL FEROX? Cheers, Umberto, you're a sweetheart.

I have only seen a couple of Lenzi flicks so I can't comment on the quality of his entire output. I haven't seen HITCHER IN THE DARK but I might check it out just for curiosity. I also haven't seen CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD, but I did see clips from it in Wizard Video's ZOMBIETHON compilation and they didn't impress me enough to make me want to see the actual movie. EATEN ALIVE and CANNIBAL FEROX were both good, although I prefer EATEN ALIVE out of the two. PARANOIA was also great sleazy fun. The only Lenzi flick I thought was weak was SO SWEET SO PERVERSE. I saw this one a few years back and don't remember much about it. But it was made around the same time as PARANOIA and also has Carroll Baker in it.
