Or maybe we just... disagree! Your opinion is as valid as mine any day of the week, but I'm not about to tell you that I felt one way about a film when I actually felt the other way. Both JEEPERS CREEPERS and the new GHOSTS had script problems, and I think I mentioned that the first time around. Whi...

THIR13EN GHOSTS

Okay--remember how much I liked the remake of HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL? How I thought Dark Castle had nailed the formula for a contemporary William Castle remake? Well, we've waited long enough for the follow-up, and I'm pleased enough to say that THIR13EN GHOSTS (Good Lord, do I hate these cute "...

Bones From Hell in Atlantis

Yep--it's almighty "ketchup" time. HEARTS IN ATLANTIS--okay, it's not horror, but it's Stephen King. If you've read the book, you'd be amazed that they pulled off a movie that doesn't mention Vietnam at all! And what would have been a more overtly supernatural story was toned down to a sor...

Whoops! Didn't know this one made it to The Beaten Track--I'm treating it as a horror film, so come check out my post at Horrornews.

Yeah, it's out there...

Meggido!

"Send down your plagues... pour out your bowls of wrath upon the earth... BRING IT ON!!!" So speaks the Antichrist (Michael York) in this not-really-a-sequel to THE OMEGA CODE (the subtitle OMEGA CODE 2 is on the publicity but not on the film itself) that just hit "select" theatr...

Joy Ride--and I nominate a patron saint

Another crappy year... even the horror films I've liked somewhat have been marred with some problem or another (HANNIBAL and its ending, THE FORSAKEN and its status as a clone, etc.)--but here's a damn good one at last. First of all, were the names of the brothers chosen as "Lewis" and &qu...

XTRO 2 was subtitled "The Second Encounter" and was the one with Jan-Michael Vincent. The third one was subtitled "Watch the Skies" and was about government UFO/alien coverups... and people getting stalked and killed on an island. Yes, it's tradition for sequels to be disconnecte...

The first XTRO took me by surprise in theatres in 1983--I liked it enough to eventually buy the tape. For that matter, I liked it enough to be crushed by the sequel (I gave it a zero). And are you aware that there's a third one? A very strange "hybrid" film (again, no connection at all) wi...

Soul Survivors--Take Two

Okay, I'm coming back to this board now. Last time I was quite prepared to dump SOUL SURVIVORS--to make it the exception to my "completist" rule. Well, times have drastically changed, as we all know--and as fate would have it, this much-maligned misfire of a "horror" film opened ...

P.S. Did you know that 'feeding the ducks' is Pommy (resident of England) slang for masturbation? Feed away, big guy. Feed away. Never knew that one--heard of "wrestling the bald-headed champion," but that's about it for cross-the-pond terms... Speaking of ponds, I actually live near a lar...

Soul Survivors? Not in MY neck of the woods!

After a year's worth of trailers and all sorts of stories about how the R-rated film became a PG-13, we finally get this long delayed release from Artisan. Well, some of us did--maybe some major city folks. Not me. You know me as the guy who sees "everything." That is, every so-called horr...

In all fairness, Ebert thumbs-downed Spike Lee's BAMBOOZLED (which I liked). One of my very posts to Mortado's had to do with Ebert and his review of THE BEYOND, among other things. I've tried more than once to get him to answer my very detailed questions regarding his approach to horror films, and ...

Okay--first of all, we're talking about the MOVIE here. Anyone wants to start in on the moral debate regarding who made it, whether he should be allowed to make movies (or live), etc., please direct me to another thread for that. We've got a beautifully made horror film here, even if it doesn't real...

Since when is "dumb but fun" good enough for a John Carpenter film? The last one I really, really liked was IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, even though VAMPIRES had plenty of moments. But GHOSTS OF MARS suffers from the single worst script ever used in a Carpenter film--either that, or they chang...

David... trying to remember where I posted that Cornel Wilde reference! Just taped SHARK'S TREASURE, too! As for FLESH EATERS? We seek a distributor, plain and simple, and we're weighing offers. I'll be sure and holler when we've come to a decision. In the meantime, anyone who can make it to the Mon...

Finally caught up with it... oh, definitely yes--someone needs to sit Jan De Bont down and force-feed him this one! It's the mark of a truly fine film when I figure (almost) the whole thing out in the early stages but get caught up in it regardless. I think we're all talking about the same "jum...

SPOILERS CONTINUED... . . . . . SPOILERS CONTINUED... . . . . . . If we can buy into anything in this movie, the original film or the original book, we can give credence to the possibility that Wahlberg's character quite simply never returned to Earth--going back through the storm gave him the comfo...

Planet of the Apes--well....

All right, so it isn't "horror," but I figure this is where most of us are going to look first--I think that the entire PLANET OF THE APES phenomena has enough relevance to everyone on this board to merit a little discussion here. I was really looking forward to this one--since they didn't...

FLESH EATERS screening in Pasadena

FINALLY! It's confirmed--we're unleashing FLESH EATERS on the world at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Pasadena this Saturday, August 11th. We're slotted after Eric Caidin's Hollywood Book and Poster 16mm film show (app. 6pm, we're told). So, if any of you are in the area... If not, we hope to ha...

Jurassic Park III--so SUE me!

Expect nothing, and you get... perhaps a pleasant surprise. Okay, refresher course. I have no automatic hatred of CGI--if we're honest with ourselves, we can admit that the original King Kong and the Ray Harryhausen monsters we all loved weren't one-hundred-percent "realistic" either--they...

I'm with Latte... except for the "hate" part. For the most part, I was quite surprised by how much I actually liked this movie (yes, acting, sets and effects were all utterly top-drawer), but we parted company at the exact same moment. The film should have ENDED with the first "ending...
