By now every Fulci fan in the world should know this movie, for it probably is Lucio’s shining moment on screen. The Beyond is a surrealistic movie with some of the nastiest gore scenes ever produced.

The story evolves around Liza, a woman who is restoring a 1920’s Louisiana hotel, hoping to return it to business. The hotel happens to be built upon one of the seven gateways to hell, which accounts for all of the mysterious things which happen. The book of Eibon states that when one of the seven gateways is opened, that the dead shall walk the earth. Unaware of the hotels history, they continue to restore it, encountering a couple of deaths and rotted corpses along the way.

The US version of this movie cuts out the excess gore, but leaves in the scene with the little girl getting a tennis ball hole blown into her head, go figure. This has it all, a dog attacking a woman, eye gouging, zombies, head shots, and nasty tarantulas that make you wanna quiver. If you haven’t seen this movie, you don’t know what you are missing. I have just talked about the basics, you have to see the movie to really understand everything. The crucifixion flashback scene in the beginning is masterfully done, kinda made me feel like I was there.
