Bride of Re-Animator Brian Yuzna 1989 USA
This one can't top the original but it is very good and in some cases better. Great touches of humor shine through the gore although the gore, which there is a lot of, is always excellent. Herbert West (Jeffery Combs) and Dr. Cain (Bruce Abbott) are seen during the opening to this overseas helping out the wounded in a war. The two return to the homefront where Combs gets back to his old ways again by using his patented green serum to bring dead things back to life.
The deranged head of Dr. Hill (David Gale) also returns to cause some problems for the boys. The rest of the film is spent perfecting combs serum and trying it on different human body parts. In one memorable instance Combs joins some fingers and eyeballs together which run rampant throughout their house before being squashed. Abbott meanwhile is very concerned for his love interest Fabina Udenio who is ill, she eventually dies.
Abbott goes over the edge, so far that he agrees to use her head on one of Combs experiments to create the perfect bride. Combs uses the young ladies head, the feet of a ballet dancer, the legs of a prostitute, womb of a virgin, hands of a murderer and sculptress along with the arms of a lawyer for good measure.
I won't give the story away completely but lets just say that the bride, other re-animated creatures, Dr. Hill now with a pair of bat wings attached to his cranium and a cop with a severed hand all merge and all hell breaks loose. A great film on par with the original but not quite. Make sure to see the unrated version as the rated version is cut to pieces with no gore whatsoever.
RATING: 4 1/2 Skulls
