THE BOOGENS 1981
Directed by James L. Conway
Cast - Rebecca Balding, Fred McCarren, Anne Marie Martin, Jeff Harlan

Although this film was made in 1981, it wasn't released on video until September 1997. THE BOOGENS is a decent low budget monster movie, filmed in Colorado. Back in the early 1900's, a silver mine had to be closed due to several unfortunate accidents. Years later, a new mining operation plans to re-open this mine. After blowing open a portion of the mine that caved in years ago, something has been released. It turns out that what really happened years ago was covered up, and now the terror starts again.

THE BOOGENS is one of those suspenseful monster films, that does not show the creatures, until it's almost over. However you do see some gory murders as these creatures like to hide under things and grab it's prey. The film is a little slow to start, but builds momentum gradually. The monster effects are pretty good, even though they resemble very large, fanged turtles. Actress Rebecca Balding stands out as one of the cast who is being stalked by these creatures. She also has a nude scene ;-) If you like low budget horror films with monsters, this is one film you'll enjoy.
